I haven't seen any "Croshere equals contender" threads either. If we do end up getting Croshere for Collier, here's what I see it as: We traded number nine for Croshere (which I would have done) and picked up another first rounder (most likely somewhere in the 14-20 range). If that happens, that's not bad deal.

Now don't get me wrong, I like Austin Croshere. I think he fits our system well, spreads the floor and hustles. We could use a ROLE player like that. But all i hear on the BBS is about how he will make us contenders and put us over the top. Chris Webber or Tim Duncan will do that, not Austin Croshere. Yes, he was dynamic in the finals, but then again wasn't ever forward against the Lakers this year. Remember what Barkley did to them last year in the Playoffs! I would rather set my sights on Brian Grant. He is a great, rugged defender who can guard the low post, shoot the mid range jumper, one of the best rebounders in the league (especially offensive) and him in the low post frees up room for our Shot-Blockers Cato and Hakeem to roam around. Hakeem had his best shot blocking years when he had Otis Thorpe playing that same role Grant could play. If we cant get Webber or Duncan, Grant could fill the role nicely. Croshere is a good player, but lets not get carried away about him.

I agree, but I've read just about every thread on this BBS, and never seen one person say he would make us contenders and put us over the top. Maybe some people think he's better than he is, but no one has gone that far that I know of.

By the way, Croshere is younger than Brian Grant, and also has a better outside shot which Rudy (and I) feel fits this team as evidenced by the draft last night. Croshere has more potential, a better offensive game, the same tenacity, and also can open up the lanes with his outside shot. Plus he will come cheaper.

Cheaters never win. Unless you play for LA that is.
