Cronkite: Iraq War Has Dire Consequences Mar 19, 2:33 PM (ET) MADISON, N.J. (AP) - Criticizing what he called the "arrogance" of President Bush and his administration, retired CBS News anchorman Walter Cronkite said war with Iraq could have unintended, dire consequences for the United States. Speaking Tuesday at a Drew University forum, Cronkite issued a stinging rebuke of Bush and those who believe the war will be a quick, smooth operation that ends with Saddam Hussein's ouster. He said the refusal of France and other traditional U.S. allies to support the administration's plans signaled something deeper, and more ominous, than a mere foreign policy disagreement. "I look at our future as, I'm sorry, being very, very dark. Let's see our cards as we rise to meet the difficulties that lie ahead," Cronkite, 86, told a crowd of about 2,000 that included students, university officials, faculty and nearby residents. Cronkite also chided Congress for not looking closely enough at the impending war and failing to ascertain a viable estimate of its eventual cost, particularly in light of Bush's commitment to tax cuts. Despite his criticisms, Cronkite said it was important for Americans to support their troops. "The time has come to put all of our distaste aside," he said. "That is the duty we owe our soldiers who had no role in deciding this course of action."
I would say that what Walter Cronkite thinks is slightly less relevant than what Jimmy Carter thinks. Since he has no Nobel Peace Prize, you know... No Worries, would you like me to post some opinion articles from people who believe that we're doing the right thing? I could probably give you about 3 of those for every anti-war article that you post... I could do that, but the BBS would be filled with useless junk, and would probably crash due to thread posting traffic...
Walter Cronkite? A journalist? Come on dude, who the Frick cares.......it is all moot at this point anyway. DD
Not that his opinion matters, but what's the harm in posting what he says, it's just there to read. If you disagree, say why. People post opinions on why we should go to war as well, so what.
Oski: Yeah, I know. And there's nothing wrong with posting a dissenting opinion. I'm just concerned about the levels of useless junk posted here... Don't want the servers to crash because of it.
Walter Cronkite questioning Junior and the war in Iraq??????? Damn Jewish-controlled liberal media!!!! Oops, sorry.... Damn Jewish-controlled liberal retired newscaster media!!!!!!
Walter Cronkrite got his start broadcasting University of Oklahoma football games. I learned that on an Aflac trivia question.
Walter Cronkite is one of the most respected Americans, ever. I am sure that if he came out against the war, treeman would have posted it
Actually, I typically try to refrain from posting opinions on the war. Not for lack of material, but it is pointless, useless, meaningless to the extreme, and just ties up bandwidth with junk. Stick with substance. It's more persuasive - except to the hopelessly naive, that is...
