    Friends, family of ‘anarchist’ Oakland baker killed in robbery gone wrong don’t want jail time for thieves

    A woke California baker was savagely killed during a robbery this week — and her family and friends are urging authorities not to jail her assailants to align with her social justice beliefs.

    The startling plea came after Angel Cakes owner Jen Angel was robbed by two thieves who smashed her car window and ran off with her purse near a Wells Fargo in Uptown Oakland Monday afternoon, the San Franciso Chronicle reported.

    Angel, 48, chased after the duo’s getaway car, but got caught in the vehicle’s door and was dragged more the 50 feet, smashing her head on the sidewalk. She was put in a medically induced coma and declared dead Thursday.

    “As a long-time social movement activist and anarchist, Jen did not believe in state violence, carceral punishment or incarceration as an effective or just solution to social violence and inequity,” her loved ones wrote on a GoFundMe page set up in the wake of the attack.

    Very tragic. I don't get this weird attitude of not wanting the criminal justice system to be applied, even when a loved one has been murdered. Seems like misguided ideology.

    She obviously thinks it is not good for the community and safety of her family and friends

    Ha Ha Repubs have no plans or ideas-- just try to scare people with crime or immigrants. Running on 100% crime did not work for them in Harris County where Lina Hidalgo won despite being outspent hugely.

    When your criminal justice system is basically an assembly line for turning petty criminals into hardened/career criminals you kind start to wonder what the point is.

    A murderer is hardly a petty criminal. And how is it the justice system "turning them into hardened/career criminals"? What happened to individual responsibility? We all make choices every day, so do they. Claiming they are just passive objects being forced to become career criminals by the justice system absolves them from individual responsibility for their actions.

    Look at this dumb strategy, why not just arrest them??

    I know people who don’t want to talk about Oakland bring up Houston , but Houston police aren’t this stupid and Oakland is a much smaller city with a much higher crime per capita

    the entire point of Oakland is it’s where people who can’t afford to live in San Francisco live

    1) according to the article posted this does not sound like murder

    2) as someone who isn't American I guess you may not know the pitfalls and engineered recidivism of the American criminal justice system

    3) this has nothing to do with "individual responsibility"

    First off the justice system doesn’t work that way. The victim doesn’t really get to decide the punishment so her friends and family can ask but in criminal cases it is “the people” and not the victim deciding the case.

    The second part this again shows the danger of trying to enforce the law yourself. If she hadn’t decided to try to chase and stop the criminals she likely would be alive.

    To emphasize this isn’t about being soft in crime but your own personal safety. Yes getting robbed sucks but dying or being seriously injured trying to stop a robbery is also bad.
