I think this is the kind of thing that is so bothersome People do crimes with MUCH GREATER SOCIETAL IMPACT but get much less sentences. Rocket River
A very disturbing example of what's wrong with the American financial system. The government rigs the system in favor of the rich and well connected and then gives them a slap on the wrist when they abuse the system. But when a poor, homeless man steals from the banks that counterfeit money (and steal from everybody else by making their money worth less), he loses what little he has in life, plus about 20% of an average person's lifespan. Truly disgusting and disturbing.
Agreed. Being Rick gets you more of everything even a more generous portion of 'justice'. Everyone tolerates it because. . .they hope to one day be on the receiving end of this generousity The poor hope and pray for it the Rich fight and defend it. No one seems to just want to end it. Rocket River
It would be so easy to cut down on white collar crime if you sent them to maximum security prisons, where they would be used as currency
I agree with Rocket River that this is not just. But I'm sorry...that thread title allows for a lot of puns..."occupy prisons"?

First Degree Robbery – The taking of something of value when the offender does not have a weapon, but leads the victim to believe that they do have a weapon. This crime carries a minimum of 3 years to a maximum of 40 years.
I don't understand what your point is in posting incessantly the sentencing requirements other than reinforcing the fact that you have the moral reasoning abilities of a child---and therefore equate the law and punishment with wrong and right (which I also suspect predisposes one to religion, and conservative views, but that's a discussion for another day.) The whole point is the laws are flawed, so positing them again and again doesn't change anything. It reinforces the point.
Because it's not about the amount of money you frickking moron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's about the fact that he acted as though he had a gun. God you're dumb!
Oh well, you know, the societal harm that comes with a homeless man pretending he has a gun, compares really well with the billions stolen from homeowners. I can totally see how that would add 14.9 years in jail, and subtract a similar amount for white-collar crime.
You guys really think a 54 year old junkie has no previous criminal records? Yeah, his momma didn't raise him that way. BTW, this story is about 2 years old: http://web.archive.org/web/20090320032928/http://www.ktbs.com/news/Man-who-took-one-bill-and-handed-rest-back-to-bank-teller-gets-15-year-sentence-23655/ And after doing just a little googling some information is left out to make everyone feel bad for poor Mr. Brown: Living only 8 miles from the Texas/Louisiana state line & less than 25 miles from Shreveport, I remember the story about Roy Brown. Information missing from this is a couple of facts. In 1994 Louisiana adopted a Three Strikes sentencing law. Also missing is the fact that Roy Brown had at least 8 prior arrests. These were because of the crimes of … fugtive status, parole violations, battery, assault, criminal neglect of his family, DWI, as well as possession of mar1juana … criminal activity, on his part, going back to the year 1988. In an ideal world there would be such a thing as the truth, the whole truth, & nothing but the truth that goes along with stories that have gone viral, such as this. Seems, to me, that those who are upset about the injustice in this country, of which there are countless cases … would desire to find someone other than the career criminal, Mr. Roy Brown, to represent their case. http://civilliberty.about.com/b/2011/06/23/two-sentences.htm I highlighted the last sentence for RR encase he missed it. Cmon man, I know you get all ansy whenever black injustice shows itself, but it would be best to stick to realistic stuff instead of BS that's this obvious. This looked like some BS viral crap right from that start, are you really that blind in your crusade against racism(but not bigotry apparently) to not see the difference anymore? The 3 strikes rule is in place for a reason. This was apparently strike 5 or 6? And the guy that aided and abetted(sp?) only got 3 years while the guy he aided got 30 years. http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/06/30/mortgage-executive-receives-30-year-sentence/
You have the mind of a four year old and he wants it back. The white collar guy got pretty much what the prosecutors asked for. And, oh by the freakin' way, the mastermind of the scheme got 30 years. Just so you know, that's more than 15 years.
Sorry but neither of your links took me to the quote you seem to have. 1. I don't care for the 3 strikes policy. If you PAY FOR YOUR CRIME . . . why should it be held against you later. Evidently Paying for crime becomes a life debt. 2. Even with priors. . .the IMPACT To society is much less than the Billions defrauded We need to look into the IMPACT to society. Rocket River
Also as homeless guy with no food or money, 15 years of tax-payer paid housing, food, and health care is a decent option.
