no way! credit cards get me stuff. getting stuff isn't evil! I can use money! ------------------ snap crackle pop
Credit cards aren't money. They are evil. ------------------ So, I took the million dollars and bought a steam shovel...
Most evil thing about credit cards is how they attack young, college students with "pre-approved" cards. One of my roomates in college was maxing out a bunch of these $500 limit cards and he had little income... enough to pay rent, etc. We're like, "Dude, what are you doing? You know you have to pay those back, right?" No joke... he's like, "I'm fine. All I have to do is pay $15 a month" (which was the minimum payment they required). We just stared at him. 6-7 years later and he's still buried in credit card debt. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
I guess the credit card companies hated me (much like everyone else) because I never got preapproved offers when I was in college. I've got two credit cards right now that I originally had because it's sometimes hard to get by without a credit card. But with the rise of debit cards, it's become significantly easier to live without credit cards (though there are still some advantages. For example, for things like reserving hotel rooms and the like, you're better served by using the credit card). I tend to pay off the cards I have every month and only use them for things like gasoline, if that even. ------------------ Houston Sports Board Film Dallas.com AntiBud.com [This message has been edited by mrpaige (edited May 07, 2001).]
I was taught the evils of credit cards early on in life. I now own 2 credit cards that I actually use and one of them I only use if a place happens to not accept Amex. Oh yes, and my bank's debit card, too. There's no point in saving and waiting for your money to compound if your debt is compounding 9%-20%+. But, yes.... those things are eeeeeeeeeevil. ------------------ NBA Draft Lottery is May 20th. Start praying now. [This message has been edited by Dr of Dunk (edited May 07, 2001).]
free t-shirts are the bomb, and free money cards are even better. ------------------ P.S. This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.
the preapproved credit cards are really evil...u know they are not really preapproved right? I've applied for a few preapproved ones and got rejected...I get delinquicy of credit or whatever cuz I applied for one too many free t-shirts deals... wondering how much you guys owe in credit card debts when you got out of college...5000+ bucks here...they were charging me over 100 bucks a month in intrest alone...I got them all paid after I got my first job though... ------------------
have to vent about the discover "cash back" credit cards too...I pay like a hundreds of dollars for credit cards and get only a few bucks in return, wassup with that? cashback credit card sucks! ------------------
Good Morning Rocket Fans! Jeff I have to laugh! Credit cards are evil but your business still accepts them right? Ah! the paradox... You should help people out and not accept them. Make people pay cash! Help people see the error of their ways! ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is.
I do like my Shell MC & GM Card. Shell MC gets me 5% rebate on all gas purchases and the GM card gives me 5% of all purchases, up to a limit of either $500 or $1000 year and can be accumulated for 5 years. I bought a new Silverado about a year and a half ago and waited until we already worked out the deal and then broke out my card and saved $1300. That made me happy!
I too, had the pleasure of learning of the scandalous, tragic credit card web early in life. But luckily, I was one of the fortunate ones who was able to pay them off over time. Now I have 3 cards, and less than 1k in credit card debt at any given time. It is good to have that monkey off your back. ------------------ My doctor says I am bipolar. I am going to get a second opinion. I have never had intimate desires for polar bears.
Time for all adults to take RESPONSIBILITY for their own Credit Card problems. You can always turn down the offers. I had some serious Credit Card debt during College and immediately afterwards. However, I worked it down, payed them off, now keep only 2 Visa cards...both paid in full monthly. I love my AAdvantage card, because I get airmiles off of every purchase. I use it for Gas, groceries, biz purchases EVERYTHING, then pay it off at the end of the month. It took my wife and I to Disney World for free. Credit cards are a useful tool, if you use the tool and don't let it use you. DaDakota ------------------ If you like RTS games, check out this one. www.frontierwars.com coming soon to a PC near you.
That's easy to say DaDa if you have a good job. But what about the people who need it to help them pay the bills? Different strokes for different folks. ------------------ See the three, be the three.
LOL!!! I know, I know! The irony is that, if we didn't accept them, we would lose probably 50 to 60% of our sales! I was really trying to be funny when I said they were evil. Of course credit cards aren't inherently evil. It's like the mis-use of the phrase "Money is the root of all evil." Actually, the Bible says, "The love of money is the root of all evil." So, let me rephrase. Credit cards are not evil. Mis-use of credit cards is evil. Just to add, I was listening to an interview on NPR about a year ago with Greenspan and he said the single most effective thing people in America could do to help decrease the national debt was pay off their credit cards. The idea is that if they weren't using their money to pay the interest on cards, they would have it for goods, services and, most importantly, investment. Interesting. ------------------ So, I took the million dollars and bought a steam shovel...
"have to vent about the discover "cash back" credit cards..." ChenZhen, what are your expectations from "cash back" credit cards? If I remember correctly, credit card companies get less than 5% of a sales transaction you make with the business. Do you feel you deserve half of that? If you used cash for the purchase, how much are you getting back? =============== "That's easy to say DaDa if you have a good job. But what about the people who need it to help them pay the bills? Different strokes for different folks." If a person need money for bills, he/she can: 1) get a job 2) develop better skills to get a better job 3) borrow money from family and/or friends. 4) borrow from banks 5) charge the credit card 6) rob somebody If he/she had to choose #5, then it's because he/she can not accomplish any of the first 4 choices for whatever reason. In that case, he/she should thank god (or somebody) for the existence of credit cards, because without it, he/she would probably be living on the streets.
I've been saving my credit card applications that come to me in the mail. Grand total over the last few months: 26 ------------------ The sky is falling!
