I've been told by some people that creatine is the safest thing to help get you bigger. As long as you take it in dosage amounts and drink your water, it won't harm you. What do you guys know about this and is it worth starting?
yes, it's completly safe. You'll have to try real hard to overdose on it. Just drink a lot of water because if you do have some problems, it will be from dehydration. Creatine is a naturally occuring element in the body. I've been using it for about 3 years i guess, and have had no problems. I use Prolab, Link, its very cost effecient and works well. You can buy it at a Vitamin Shoppe or GNC(shudders), but you'll just end up overpaying for it. Edit And also, I wouldn't recommend the "pre-loading" phase. Studies have shown that this is completely useless and is only a gimmick to sell more of the product.
Get the liquid form where you place it under your tongue. With the powder form it take 2-3 hours for your body to actually use the stuff. With the liquid it takes less than 30 min... Wifes been a personal trainer for the past 8 years and has a degree in kineese.. And of course drink lots of water.
Creatine is completely safe. I would recommend just taking a tablespoon every day before workouts. I have never had any of the cramping problems people have talked about and I actually experimented with drinking less water than I would normally drink while taking creatine. I saw gains in just two weeks and after two months I was lifting far more than I have ever been able to.
have you guys tried Trac? It has nitric-oxide which i heard helps your body's endurance: hence you can work out longer. I noticed this when I can get that extra couple reps in and I feel great after workouts. It could have been psychological however so who knows? Anyway The grape flavor is actually pretty good(although the taste becomes less and less pleasant after a month or two)
sorry to be dumb tested911, but do you know the name of the liquid version, or is it just called creatine liquid or something like that. i am really interested in using it, a yr ago i bought the powder form and it was horrible, everything i mixed it with stunk, so i'm really interested in the liquid form you mention.
I wouldn't be so quick to state Creatine is completely safe. The use of creatine as a supplement has been going on long enough for a proper study to occur on the effects it may cause on the liver/kidneys over a 15-20 year period. If you are going to use it I would suggest not using it ALL the time, rather cycling it for a few weeks on and off. I would also cocnur with Rule's suggestion and not use any kind of pre loading phase (taking large doses for the first week or so). A teaspoon before a workout and a good protein shake after (toss in some bananas and raw egg for good measure) and you'll be good to go.
Completely false. Liquid "serum" creatine is completely worthless, and a scam. Prolab bottles Creapure creatine monohydrate, basic stuff. There are also newer forms of creatine available like creatine ethyl ester, magnesium creatine chelate, di-creatine malate, etc. Go for it if you want, it provides extra energy by virtue of increasing ATP production. It also has a cell volumizing effect. Don't expect like a steroid effect. You won't blow up from taking creatine, but it will make some difference.
I have heard over and over that the liquid form does not work and is simply a scam. Afterall, everything in a GNC (or any store like it) is completely un-FDA regulated. They could package crap in a pill and sell it to you if they wanted. Knowing this I only use supplements that I have found positive testemonials for and I have yet to find an overwhelming amount of these on any creatine product in non powder form. I have only used AST's micronized creatine and I can assure you that there is no taste or smell. I can mix it with water and not notice a difference in taste. It is supposedly also much easier on the stomach although I have nothing to compare it to. Here's a link if you want to check the stuff out. It was my first creatine product and I have not had any problems so I have no plans to change. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ast/microcreatine.html
It was pretty big among rugby players in the mid-90's but nowadays it's not recommended by unions (though still widely used) especially after a few players developed kidney problems that may or may not be associated with creatine use.
i doubt theres any, i havent heard of any so far. i doubt they work too well also, they dont pump you up, its a myth i hear.
everything i've read makes me believe at our current level of knowledge it's completely safe to take creatine. however, i think a lot of people who go out and buy it expect it to be steroid-lite when it's not at all. i'm not saying it isn't beneficial because it can be, but it's very far down on the list of things you need. i'd rather spend extra money on balanced meals and good protein over something like creatine.
