Did anybody else watch the interview? Wow. I'd post a link but www.thedailyshow.com doesn't have the full interview yet.
The first thing I was going to type was "98% of this board will think this is a Seinfeld reference..." lol. Here's a CNN snippet that kind of details what led to tonight's interview. Stewart's been taking it to CNBC and its commentators/reporters. It doesn't include what happened tonight : <object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Eexy-51sIao&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Eexy-51sIao&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>
As bright as Cramer is, he crumbles when interviewed or attacked. It's happened before on CNBC when Rick Santelli took it to him.
exactly. he was amazingly bad. what i posted from the other thread: watching the interview, i would say jon is crushing cramer, but not so much because jon has that many good points but because cramer is being amazingly bad at articulating his points. cnbc runs a network they hope people watch. telling them what they have to be doesn't make much sense if people are watching. they weren't chartered by the government to get to the bottom of corruption. i suppose you can make fun of them for being wrong, but to seemingly act like they're part of why we're in this situation seems crazy to me.

CNBC is a subset of NBC News. The point of NBC News, and journalism in general, was not always to shove cameras up Katie Couric's butt, but to better inform the citizenry. They're supposed to be journalists, not just report on what happened last night on The Apprentice. That NBC News is now a profit center should not distract from its (former) role as a major bastion of journalism. CNBC should question and report, not coddle CEOs and (Cramer) bang "Buy! Buy! Buy!" sound effect buttons.

As soon as Stewart played the clips of Cramer promoting market manipulation / shorting, it was as if Cramer'd caught a body blow. He just sort of deflated, and accepted the lashing/reeducation-to-be. Vicious, and altogether warranted. The host of the "variety show" wins.
In fairness to Cramer, he's had CEO's on his show and following talking to them, he's basically said he can't get behind the company after what the CEO said - one such company was Diana Shipping. He's busted CEO's lying on the show - one such CEO according to him was Syntax Brillian's CEO and told people to never buy the stock. Part of the problem Cramer would have if the show turned into what Stewart is asking is that nobody would watch. His goofiness is a lure for people to watch. Do you think the average human wants to listen to what he has to say about derivatives and futures trading? I doubt it. Cramer did a poor job of defending himself on that show. He's been blasting double and triple-short ETF trading forever. He's had his "wall of shame" for CEO's who he thinks are doing abysmal jobs forever. That being said, I agree with you that CNBC and Cramer should grill people better. I don't think they're averse to that, but then I'm sure they'd lose future interviews. It's like how people b**** about Chronicle reporters lying in bed with Rockets management and/or players - to an extent, they have to or they wouldn't get the stories they do get. The other problem I see is that most of CNBC's reporters don't have the knowledge of what's going on in some of these markets - at least not the internal workings. Some of them are very bright, don't get me wrong, but others are there for eyecandy and the fact they have the personality not to bore people to death as they talk about the VIX, pips, and covered calls. Here's a secret of the market for anyone that doesn't know - nobody knows what's going to happen. They just try to increase the odds that they're right. Wait... that may be how we got into derivatives and hedge funds. Damn.
WOW that was a skewering like I haven't seen for a long time. And I don't think it's really about Cramer, but Stewart's frustration with CNBC staying on the surface and not probing deeper as a network (briefly mentioned). Honestly, this is one of those moments that justifies Daily Show as Emmy material. "It makes us feel as if we're capitalizing your adventures" DEAD ON.
Cramer made a good point - you could make the same video about Warren Buffett if you wanted to if you selectively pick out clips and show where stocks went down. Stewart is becoming the liberals' go-to guy to inform the Obama drones out there. He provides very biased, partisan, limited contextual information in an attempt to make the right look foolish, and he's got a handy laugh track behind him to support his points. Libs - I would hope that you can think a little deeper than blindly following your stooge Jon Stewart's biased pieces.
How sad is it that with all these channels on cable etc, that Jon Stewert doing a comedy show is doing the heavy lifting? DD
It's easier to 'heavy lift' when you focus on the past and old news clips of people and make fun of them. What does he say about how we fix things? I think Jon Stewart is hilarious. But to intimate that he's setting things right with his 'news show' is ridiculous. He has good points but so do many people with 20/20 hindsight.
