My wife and I just spent our 5th anniversary in Cozumel. We had a great time and the weather was perfect. We stayed at an all inclusive, the Melia Cozumel. I had read mixed reviews online but we found it to be well above average in every way. The room was large, clean and very nice. Tile floors and an exquisite bathroom. I'd say the resort was a 4 star although I've never been in a true 5 star but I couldn't imagine how they could make it much nicer. Some one hear had told me not to expect name brand or top shelf booze at all inclusive resorts but this was not the case at the Melia. I drank more than my share of Bacardi Anjeo, Don Julio tequila, and Crown Royal. The food was good for buffet food and the selection was varied. We rented a jeep and drove around the island a couple times. Coconuts on the far side of the island was a great place to have a great rita and enjoy the view. Stacks of photo albums with female guests showing their goods were brought to the table for you viewing pleasure. Nice to discuss other womens racks with your wife on your anniversary trip. I went diving one day and it was incredible. Messed up my ear though and I'm headed to the doctor tomorrow to find out how bad. Anyway, just thought I'd share. We plan on going back next year at least once.
That sounds awesome VooDooPope. We're still trying to figure out where we're going to go on our honeymoon...Cozumel may be an option!
All Inclusive is definitely the way to go. Cruises are way cool too, but don't be fooled by their all-inclusive. You still have to pay for your alcohol and all your tips to your room steward, waiter and head waiter. Also, don't get out of control with the photos they take of you on the cruise. Thats a big money maker for them.
Glad you liked it, but I suggest trying a new place before returning. I'll again suggest Belize. It doesn't have the beaches of Cancun or Cozumel, but it's a lot cheaper, more laid back, and less exploited by the tourism industry. If you're into diving or snorkeling you'll love it since it's surrounded by a barrier reef. Not to mention the fact that tehy have a great national beer called Belikin. Both the lager and stout are great.
Belize sounds good. Buck Turgidson says Panama is amazing as well. BTW, VDP, congrats on the anniversary!!
Ironically, I always think "VooDooPipe ". But, as far as Cozumel, it totally rules! That's where we went for our honeymoon and it was fantastic.
Thanks everyone. We had a great time. Belize, Costa Rica and a couple others are on our short list for next time. I don't know how it could get much cheaper though. We paid 1100 total for airfare, room and all food and drinks. I took 250 in ones for tips and spent maybe another 200 for stuff for the kids and the jeep for 2 days.
I'd second Belize. Went to Belize and Guatemala on my honeymoon and it was great. But we're definitely not into the the high tourism, cruise ship type vacations - more of an off the beaten path kind of thing but still highly vacation worthy - Lake Atitlan in Guatemala and all of Belize. There are some great spots off the coast in Belize as well. Jaguar Paw, Lamanai Outpost Lodge and a couple of resort like places owned by Francis Ford Coppolla. Anyway...sorry to derail the Cozumel talk.
