If anyone didnt get a chance to check it out last night for the grand opening you should..... soon! Bartenders are really really hot, and they arent as b****y as you would think - I mean this is Texas for chrissake "The friendly state". There were some fatties that got up on the bar and danced, but I just closed my eyes and tried to picture some cheerleader..... Watching body shots from girls in leather pants isnt a bad thing either..... I was hammered by the time we got there from Expose, but it was a nice way to cap off a pretty good b-day. I think they were filming for some reality TV show or something, so if my mug comes up piss drunk making a complete ass out of myself (all quite possible with the way things panned out last night) - pretend like you dont know me....
I've been dreading this day for awhile. First the Hard Rock, now this POS. 6th St has been going south for the last year or so, and it's in danger of hitting rock bottom. Do yourself a favor, Drew. Next time go down to 4th/Warehouse area. You'll have a much better time.
Been going south? It's been going south ever since I was old enough to get in all those places. BW3's about the only thing worth going to 6th for. Also, trust me, Drewdog knows 4th/Warehouse. We've had our share of drunk nights over there. BTW, happy b-day, bud. Call me if you're in town this weekend. Maybe we'll grill and watch the Rockets saturday afternoon.
Baqui- Ive been here for 5 years so Im all too familiar with the 4th street scene. My favorite places are Speakeasy, Ludwig's, and Fox and Hound for a beer and a game. Club DeVille is also a fav - though its on Red River. I just wanted to check out the chicks last night.....
I avoid 6th street like the plauge unless there is a band I like that is playing, or someone from out of town wants to go out and see it. I dont know what 20-30 somethings did before 4th/Warehouse.... Its even more discouraging because when SXSW is rolling in town, all of those shot bars MYSTEROIOUSLY turn into live music venues. Its a freaking joke - just like the whole SXSW thing is anyways. It isnt doing what it was originally intended to do - help UNSIGNED acts get a record deal..... Ok Im going off on a tangent here....... Thanks RM95. I'll give you a shout this weekend. I start work on Monday.
Exactly what I was thinking. Took a stroll down 6th when I was in Austin a few weeks ago, just for old time's sake. Looked like the same cheesy bars & cheesy people that were there 10 years ago.
Affirmative. Unless you are between 18-22, a UT or SWT student, or a thug rolling in from East Austin, dont go near 6th.
I echo your sentiment on BW3 and the coolness that is 30-cent Tuesday's. Speakeasy is always a good time. Lucky Lounge is cool, as is Red Fez usually. I've never been to Ludwig's, though. Fox and Hound is nice, but I don't like getting drunk on $6 beers. Cuba Libre is packed with trim. Supposedly that new place, Oslo, is pretty cool too.
If you like fake LA wanna-be's then Oslo is the place to go. I dont think that place has a chance with the Austin crowd, although the scene is so random now - who the hell knows. I think it would work better in Dallas or downtown Houston. I dont have enough bling to roll at a place like Oslo.
Is Steamboat still there? I saw SRV and DT there one night... the same night one of my buddies almost got busted by uh, "flirting" with an undercover cop. Thank goodness she had a heart of gold!
Steamboat is gone. It used to be on 6th when I first moved here way back in '99, but it closed. Dude reopend the club with the same name at that terrible location at Riverside and Congress that always pops up a new club but is WAY WAY too big to make any owner $$$. Sucks because there were always great bands that played there. Liberty Lunch Steamboat Lucy's RIP
I was on 6th street 3 weekends ago and all I saw were a bunch of drunken frat-rats, 2 of whom tried to pick a fight with our sound crew. Big mistake. Liberty lunch is no more? I hadn't been there since 96 but I seem to remember that place having an amazing sounding PA. Too bad.
man, i wish i coulda hit up 6th before it got lame. don't get me wrong, i have a blast when i go usually, but i wanna go somewhere unique, and away from the whole "party/club/frat" scene sometimes.... (ironic since i'm in a fraternity, eh). i wanna check out some bad-ass live music. although i am a fan of shakespears. i'm a big fan of 4th though. been to ludwigs, had a great time. they had a DJ spinning while two jazz musicians blew away on the trumpet and sax. it was pretty cool. remind me to hit up fox and hound, i love that place (at least if it's like the one in the woodlands). Skyy is real nice too, especially since some of my bros work there and can get us on the guest list and hook it up w/ drinks. i'm sure i'll hit up coyote ugly sometime. chicks dancing on bars and taking body shots is never a bad time.
Yep. Its been 5 years. I was supposed to see David Garza there for the last show ever, but my psycho ex-girlfriend didnt have any freaking money......
