Uncle Bob, are you paying attention? PS, Cowher might just be trying to drive up his price, but still.
We really should root for the Giants to win out and do some damage in the playoffs as they should be our direct competition for Cowher.
Texans are "last" according to that report. I dont remember the order of the first two but was NYG/Miami then Houston or Miami/NYG then Houston. I could see Miami firing Sparano.(Imagine that, a team/coach who hasnt got the job done lately gets fired! ) And then there is New York. I think Coughlin is safe for now unless they miss the playoffs. Then there is us. Don't worry guys, we're on the right track, albeit slowly but surely!
That's another question BUT IMHO, if we have another one of these embarrassing performances, in particularly at home, then he will have no choice.
Shouldn't we be a top choice for any coach given the fact that we give the NFL equivalent of tenure to any head coach who comes? That our owner rewards .500 record extensions? That our owner have trouble firing someone even when they go 2-14? We have all that going for us, plus a team that's quite talented given that we need a coach. If we still can't get a top established coach to come here, then there's something wrong with the top of the organization.
Yeah, I'm hoping we get slaughtered by Jacksonville on the last game of the season at home, so Mcnair will HAVE to fire Kubiak.. And if he doesn't... That really shows just how much he cares about winning.
Assuming that McNair fires Kubiak, that isn't the end of the deal. For example, if Cowher wants $10M to $15M a year, I am not sure I would pull the trigger on that deal.
I would, and I would in a heartbeat. How many chances do you get to get a HOF coach on your team? Cowher coaching this team instantly makes them contenders.
Actually, if you're basing it purely on the order of the report, it's Miami, Houston, then New York. Also, I just can't believe that Miami fires Sparano after only 3 seasons, one of which he got them to the playoffs. This season, you can place a LOT of their woes on their quarterback situation, and I can't see ownership not giving him a chance to address that before they get rid of him. I think the Giants are our main competition, but they're still 9-5, and you know Coughlin will have that team playing inspired ball the last 2 weeks. I really, REALLY believe Cowher is the Texans' if they want him.....it's just a matter of IF they want him.
A top choice, yeah I would think. The top choice? I dont know. But I don't disagree. You're right on. A good owner(from media perspective, fans might say otherwise), a patient owner(good thing for coaches), a decent QB, a good RB, an elite WR, and some pieces on D though a D that needs to be fixed. Yeah, not sure on Miami. I dont think they will but never know. Not sure what their record is but do know they're eliminated from the playoffs. Giants I already mentioned. They should make the playoffs but if not, they'll look at today(or yesterday I mean) and the collapse that was. One of the talking heads on one of the networks mentions that if they miss, Coughlin only has a year left iirc so they could decide to fire him. And then there is us. What are you gonna do Bob?! One thing that could potentially help Bob make a decision(if this is a key factor and it likely is) is getting the CBA worked out as I've read recently some think or are hopeful it gets resolved by or just right after the Super Bowl. Too early to tell there though.
I would. If I had one of the ten most valuable franchises in the world. I wouldn't hesitate to offer Cowher a three year contract for 50 million. Other owners would be furious, but winning comes first, right?
Seriously, Cowher brings instant respectability to the Texans, and McNair is rich enough to cut the checks and not even notice the money is missing. Remember, McNair has one of the ten most valuable franchises in the world. He's not hurting for cash.
If another team was going to hire him for that amount, why shouldn't it be us? In what way does it handicap our franchise?
So you bypass him and then hope to reach 8 wins next season? At some point, you have to put your foot down and insist on a winning franchise. Cowher brings that.
