Source says Bears, Texans 'would excite' Cowher Bears fans coveting Bill Cowher as a possible replacement for Lovie Smith, take a deep breath. This may cause your pulse to race. An NFL Network report Monday night cited a source that said the idea of coaching the Bears or Texans "would excite,'' Cowher if the job becomes open. That'll simply make the anti-Lovie contingent among Bears fans even more antsy. But the same report said Cowher would command in the range of $10 million per-season - a staggering price even for a head coach with a Super Bowl ring. But realistically, Smith still has two years and $11 million remaining after this season on his contract. Can you see the Bears paying a coach $10 million per year? Didn't think so. Jason La Canfora reported that the Bills are expected to speak with Mike Shanahan this week and contacted Cowher about the opening created when they fired Dick Jauron last week. Cowher responded that he isn't interested in talking to any teams about potential jobs until after the season.

I think we should keep Kubiak unless he completely loses the team. Although, I would take Cowher over him
Interesting...very interesting...although if we would've won 2 of those winnable losses and be 7-3, we probably wouldn't be talking about changing coaches..
there are winnable losses for teams all the time in the NFL. the margins are thin at times, even for the really good teams. i'm tired of hearing about moral victories. that rings hollow. i like kubiak...and i wouldn't fire him because of last night...and wouldn't fire him for the sake of change. but as i wouldn't have let david carr stand in the way of a QB upgrade years ago, i wouldn't let gary kubiak stand in the way if bill cowher wanted to be the head coach of the houston texans. that's an opportunity a franchise should not pass up.
Sorry. I can't handle another 4 years of rebuilding. I get the feeling that Cowher would come here, try to run things his way, end up with 3-4 straight losing/mediocre seasons, get frustrated, and then bail. Kubiak may not be the prettiest girl at the dance, but by god, we dance with what brung us.
I think if Cowher has any interest in coming here its b/c of the players that are on the team right now. I dont see to much rebuilding maybe add a few pieces but for most part the players are here which is why this would be an attractive job for any coach if it opens up
We'll have to see how the rest of the season plays out, but if we're talking about making a change, I'd rather have Gruden. Assuming, of course, he wants to leave MNF, where he seems to have really found his niche. That said, I'm beginning to think it really doesn't matter who the coach is. This team is cursed.
I'm guessing Schaub is reason 1. Knowing you already have your QB is attractive. I agree with your point. He gets the pick of the league, really. If he's identifying your franchise, chances are that means he thinks the personnel is far enough long. I don't see a massive reconstruction coming with that.
Agree with this and I also remember hearing McClain, a few weeks back, say Cowher wasn't coming back for 2 years soooo if he has said your franchise looks good then he must REALLY be interested. 10 million a year is a lot but that is whats good about being a HAVE and not a HAVE NOT.
Cowher gives you an identity and changes the national perception of this franchise instantly. I know for some of you, that's important. Honestly, THAT ALONE should be more important to the team owner than to the rest of us. It's his brand he's building. I'd just like having a coach that's been there, done that. Barring a Bill Cowher taking the job, I don't think I'd be firing Gary Kubiak.
If McNair wants to pull this organization out of joke land and into the land of respected, credible, and feared...he has to do it.
I like Kubiak. I really do. I don't agree with all of his calls - I don't think any passionate fan would agree with all of their coach's calls. But I think Kubiak is a good coach. That being said, if Bill Cowher would come here, and you're willing to pay him, you bring him in. We already have the offense in place, now I would absolutely love to see what Cowher could do with our defense. We have the talent, and they're starting to gel... The only thing is, what happens if you fire Kubiak, and then end up losing Cowher in a bidding war, or he decides that we're not for him? Then we're screwed. Well, maybe they'd bring in Shannahan, make Kubiak the offensive coordinator, and we'd really become the Broncos.
You handle Cowher behind the scenes...and you don't fire Kubiak until you know Cowher is taking the job.
