I know they released TO today, but from watching the freaking Cowboys play, especially in important games, Tony Romo really sucks.
Hard to say. It's tough to measure how Owens effects the way the team plays. Some might overplay it, some under. Certainly on the field Romo was more of a weak link but I think it's tough when the story is never about football but rather whatever issue in the locker room that the beat writers picked up for that week. Either way, it will probably be good to get rid of that headache but the cowboys were not very good before they got Owens. Maybe a lot of that was because of Quincy Carter, Drew Henson and Vinny T though.
Romo is the reason. I'm a 9er fan and when I see Romo play its like watching a scrub playing QB. He has soo many weapons/good o-line that it makes him look like a star. You can bring back Troy Aikman and he would do better than this fool. Dallas is stupid thinking hes a good QB, the guy is the biggest choker I've seen, and probably of all time.
TO might be a punk, but he's absolutely right about Romo 1. only passing to Jason Whitten 2. missing wide open receivers Look at Matt Cassell this year, he was awesome. He threw to Randy Moss and let him make plays, he didn't pull John Madden Football 101 and throw to the Tight End every down. Because Romo and Jessica Simpson are the darlings of Dallas doesn't mean that he was really the problem. Regardless of what crap TO says, he scores TDs and is tough cover for most corners.
Honestly it is the coaches fault for letting that locker room get out of control. As far as between them, I think you could blame Romo for being too laidback. His personality is not good for a guy like T.O. in the locker room. Romo is way too passive. I still think Romo will be a better QB without T.O. there. Of course it's not T.O's fault that Romo fumbles a lot but I think you will see better decision making passing wise from Romo without T.O. there.
All I can tell you is that after the Giants got rid of divisive jerks like Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey, Eli Manning went from being a borderline bust to leading his team to a Super Bowl win. TO is more divisive than Barber and Shockey put together. You can't answer this question yet. If Romo melts down again late in the upcoming season, pin the tail on him. If he takes it up to another level, I'd say TO is probably the donkey. The reason I wanted him back with the Cowboys is because he's such a negative influence on them. His behavior last season (and the fact he got away with it) destroyed that team. It was so beautiful.
I like Romo as a QB, but in big games... he has made bad decisions. T.O. had a better season and didn't make that much noise other than that Witten stuff, so I think to release him is stupid. Patriots, Colts, Giants, Redskins... I think he'll end up on one of these teams. Opposite Randy Moss with Tom Brady back? That would be ridiculous. Opposite Reggie Wayne would be sick too.
The Patriots signed Fred Taylor, who still played very well despite his age. It's game over if they get Moss and Owens Madden '10 , everyone is going to play as the Patriots
You aren't going to win anything if your team is so mentally weak that they let one player destroy their chemistry, especially in football. Look at how the Pats did with Randy Moss. It's more likely that the team is just not as good as advertised than any one particular player bringing them down.
The Cowboys don't suck. This poll is stupid. You people need to focus energy against a more appropriate rival. How about a division opponent or something? Why focus on a team you only see twice a decade or so and in the preseason? Oh wait, preseason wins carry more importance for teams that don't see many in the regular season
Owens is right, and did what to make it better? Drop as many passes as anyone in the league and do absolutely nothing to make him a better QB, nothing to build the proper comraderie and trust level. Though he wants Romo to make him a better receiver. 10 drops compared to 69 catches isnt that good, (10 TDS to 69 catches is) but Owens is even distracting himself from catching the ball. There's no standard that you have to throw to WR's 3 out of 4 passes, that tight ends have to be a 3rd option. Antonio Gates & Tony Gonzalez must have receivers on their teams pissed off. Not saying Jerry Jones has great credibility but when HE gets tired of a player and agrees to let him loose, I think thats saying something.
Yeah but Randy Moss didn't cause any trouble in New England. Also Randy Moss has never been the talker that T.O. has been. Randy never called out a teammate before, he is actually pretty quiet.
3 good teams, 3 good QB's one great WR that cannot get along with any of them. The problem is and always will be, TO's head!!!
I have a friend that has close ties to Dat Nguyen. Word is that T.O. has the locker room split into factions. Doesn't mater what Jerry Jones allows to get to the media, the team is split. Additionally, Wade Phillips is a cream puff that can/will not put a stop to all the crap.
TO couldn't handle Witten getting lots of passes. You think he would be okay sharing catches with Moss and Welker? No way. Can you imagine Belichek at a press conference being asked about TO every day? TO is a cancer, but he is a great receiver. The Raiders will sign him within 10 days.
but TO helped the Eagles to the SuperBowl and the 9ers to a playoff win. The Cowboys are like... The Tracy McGrady of the NFL, they haven't won a playoff series since Aikman was throwing the ball. I had Romo on my FF team, I benched him for the last month and played Rivers cause I knew Romo is a choker.
I don't like the Cowboys, but I do think some of the criticism of Romo is unfair. With the injuries and the Bledsoe partial season, he's essentially a two year starter, yet people expect him to be Staubach or Aikman right now. Not everyone has the learning curve of Tom Brady. Romo's displayed All-Pro talent at times but he's also looked like an inexperienced QB in some situations. The choke thing is undeserved and stems mostly from the Seattle game, which was all Parcells fault. No way you have your starting QB continue to do holds. Too much risk of injury and too much risk of fatigue leading to a muffed hold. That was bad, bad coaching. Romo should have never been put in that position. In the other games, he hasn't choked as much as looked like an inexperienced QB. I think he'll get better.
Neither... Romo isn't ready to be "The Man" yet until he proves himself in the clutch, and TO probably can't be "the man" anymore due to drama and age. The cowboys situation is more complicated than "Fault: TO vs. ROMO"
