The Cowboys had an excellent draft this past weekend. If you break things down they gave up a 3rd round and 5th round and moved down 4 spots in this years draft to get what will probably be a top 5 pick next year from the Browns.

The Browns dont have that great of a team, and i assume will have rookie QB starting at some point in the season. So here is to the Browns having a horrible season and the Cowboys reaping all the benefits.

i'm curious what the chances were on anthony spencer still being around with the 33/34th pick that they traded to philly?

they could have kept the 3rd and 5th pick this year, then again i guess they wanted spencer more than the possibilities of extra players...

overall i'm pleased with the outcome, and hey if romo doesn't work out we have cleveland's pick next year to grab brian brohm or chad henne, otherwise we're grabbing mcfadden

you gotta like our chances this year and really for the next several years

do you think they would want mcfadden when we already have two average to above average running backs?

First, I AM happy about having a (likely) high 1st next year, but at the same time, this may be Dallas's year... and by that, I mean that this is the first time in 10 years I can remember having Superbowl aspirations. So in a way, I wish they had traded that future #1 for another late #1 this year... say, for a receiver (Meacham), or better yet an O-lineman (Grubbs, Staley). A real difference-maker, you know?
And if I had my way, we would've still drafted Free, but passed over Martin for a space eating defensive tackle (Tank Tyler... I really wanted him). And if we HAD taken an O-lineman in the first, I would've used the pick we used on Free for a safety (Condren). Then I think I'd pass over Ball to grab a return specialist (Derek Stanley).

Overall though? I give Dallas a B, just like most sports sites. I'm happy with their general draft concept, I just would've tried drafting at a few more positions, rather than drafting multiples at one position (two OLs, two CBs). Just nitpicking, really.

well in that regard its usually always hard to give a good "draft grade" to a team that trades for the future. i guess though i was more commentating on the actual trade.

the cowboys are Def set up for the future with a very young team and a lot of picks for next year.

I don't think the Browns will be as bad as some predict. Joe Thomas will instantly improve the offense, period. And while a lot of people don't like Quinn (including myself), he has the ability to suprise a lot of people, especially since he'll be playing with a chip on his shoulder. He has all the tools you want from a QB. Wright could turn out to be a solid pickup as well.

The offense has a lot of potential considering they don't have to start Quinn right away, Frye can hold the fort until he is ready. But adding Joe Thomas, Quinn, and Jamal Lewis to an offense that already has Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow already improves the offense a lot.

that kind of sucks. i know who a majority of the players you listed are. just didnt realize they were all on the Browns.

in saying that rookie QBs rarely do well. it will be interesting.

Very slim. It was said that Baltimore and Chicago was very high on Spencer.

And to whoever suggested that they should have given up that future 1st for another late 1st....I totally disagree. You dont give up a potential Top 5 pick for a pick in the late 20's. There was not a difference maker left for them to pick.

jones will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2007 season, and barber's ends in 2009. we've seen what julius can do for a full year plus a couple of injury filled seasons. barber appears to be the better back if you look at last season. either way i think with jerry being an hog he'll give serious consideration to mcfadden.

and who says rookie QBs don't do well?

I'm pretty happy with what we got...Albeit, I think we're already a great team that will definitely go deep in the playoffs...I wish we would have gotten a receiver earlier, but overall, with a top 10 pick next year, we could get a good one...

jerry was talking about TO and glenn playing out their contracts which is another reason i think they'll go after mcfadden or a QB with the pick next year rather than a receiver.

though limas sweed, and early doucet will be in the draft :D

    TO's ends in 08 and glenn's in 2010....

Jackie Battle (UH Cougar) signed by Cowboys

After dazzling scouts at the University of Houston pro day, the buzz was that Cougars running back Jackie Battle was going to be one of the biggest surprises of the 2007 NFL draft.

He was, but not in the way Battle had hoped. Or expected.

Turns out that the biggest surprise was seeing Battle go from unbelievable on pro day to undrafted on Sunday. But that didn't mean Battle was unwanted. As soon as the final pick of the seventh round was announced, Battle's phone began ringing with free-agent offers, and Battle accepted a three-year deal from the Dallas Cowboys.

"Yeah, things turned out pretty well for me," Battle said. "As soon as the draft ended, my phones started blowing up. I had a bunch of options."

McFadden might as well be playing for the Cowboys.

BTW they're gonna draft high enough to get McFadden only it won;t be Clevlands pick they do it with.

that's nice and dandy, but the cowboy's already addressed all their holes in free agency. A late 1st round wr wouldn't even be the 3rd wr on the team next year. I doubt a 1st round OL would crack the lineup either.

If the Cleveland pick is a high one, it may very well end up being a high impact player.

And Spencer is being looked at as a impact player this year. The only real need they had was getting a pass rush. Unlike BP, Wade is going to be blitz happy, and he will use all those big bodies Dallas has to get to the qb.

I don't think you can count on the pick being top 10 because of how unpredictable the NFL is, but I like the odds.

They have a pretty tough schedule, are the worst team in their division(imo). Will be starting either a subpar qb or a rookie qb. Have crappy wrs outside of Braylon. KW2 is an injury waiting to happen. In fact, with the luck they have, the whole roster is an injury waiting to happen. And oh yeah, their d sucks. It's almost a lock they don't make the playoffs, but how much worse they'll be than that we'll have to wait and see.
