The only real problem I have with the trade is that I assume Taylor's playing time will be cut. Aren't Lee and Taylor pretty identical type of players?
As sad as this makes me say this Lee will play more than taylor, but im fine with that very good defender in orlando. but soon very soon Taylor will break out. whats Lee's contract situation?
Starting 3rd year of rookie contract that will pay him less than $2m this season, I think. Pretty much free labor this year and next. I don't weep over JT. Lee has only 1 year of seasoning over JT. They are on an equal playing field, mostly. Let the better player win out. If Taylor is good, he'll get playing time; if not, he won't.
No they are not at all. Lee has not very good at creating his own shot in the NBA. He is a good spot up shooter and slasher on a rotating defense when he has other players to be focal points of the offense. He can pass, but has not consistently shown good passing ability. Maybe in this system, he can develop that more. On defense, he is a sort of pesky defender. Think of Matt Barnes-lite. I really think he can develop this more with more seasoning and tutelage, but it would take time. Taylor is average to good at creating his own shot. He is often much too aggressive in attempting to do so though, which leads to him putting up a bad shot, not passing the ball to a teammate on a collapsing defense, or a turnover. He is not a bad slasher and shooter, but I haven't seen him in this role enough to assess. Given though, Taylor has not have a lot of minutes to show what he can do. He was very good in his start against LA this spring, but subpar to average in other games. A lot of what I have seen from him is from summer league.
lee is better now, but in the future taylor could be better, but it's not a sure thing. Not identical players at all....Lee is more of a spot up shooter, slasher, closer to kevin martin offensively, although not as good of a shooter, but still solid....better athlete than Martin though and better on D. Taylor is more athletic than Lee, potentially a better one on one player.
The comparison should be Ariza vs Lee C. Lee: Better... -shooter (esp freethrows!!!!) -mover without the ball -@ guarding quick 2's -attitude -upside -contract -durability -finisher with contact
Lee is obviously better than Taylor. Taylor potentially has a higher ceiling because of his amazing athleticism and build. Too bad he still doesn't like passing.
Being a Magic fan and Rockets fan, during the time he was playing for us in orlando, he was a pretty good shooter, could defend, really good in transition, and was a hard worker. His problem is he can't create his own shot and his size which is what the lakers took advantage of during the NBA finals. I think you guys will like him, just don't let him alley opp for the last shot
Taylor is garbage from what i seen. If the LEE deal is about getting money to go at someone like Melo...then i am cool. If not, then it's a bad deal.
I think what really sets Lee apart is the playoff experience. He had some pretty solid games in the Magic playoff run in 09.
