Does anyone here watch this show? It's freaking hilarious, especially the character Jeff. It's somewhat akin to an early Freinds, but way, way funnier. The Susan character is seriously sexy, and all the actors are amazing. I just roar with laughter almost throughout every episode. Great cast, scripts, etc. If you haven't seen it, do. My roomies and I are addicted, and have sent away for the DVDs.
I can't find it ANYWHERE on TV up here in Salt Lake, but I have a friend in Phoenix and he owns the whole first season, which I LOVED and am TOTALLY hooked. The casting is outstanding and the writing is genius. I actually heard that they were going to try to make an American version of the show, but that it floundered so quickly in production that it won't be going on the air. But I don't know, that was just what I heard from a friend. Rest assured you're not alone--that's seriously the funniest show I've seen in quite some time.
It did make it to air, it was supposed to be the replacement for Friends and they hyped big time, but it was huge failure.
I dunno. I saw a few last year, they were...ok. It meanders. I frickin' hate Friends and always have from epsiode "pander target market" zero. I hope they die in a freak thunderbolt, and all the writers, staff, and tape, too.
I love that show, nice to see others do too. Its kind reminds me of seinfled but more about sex. It took me a little while to get some of the British pop culture references (BBC news people, naked chicks) but even if you dont its extremly funny. Like McBeth said the Jeff charactor is brilliant and the actress that plays susan is very hot. The only think that kind of sucks is that there are so few episodes but ill take quality over quantity anyday with this show. I have only watched the whole series once but "inferno" is probally my favorite.
The American version was one of the worst shows ever. Poor casting. Un-funny dialogue. Just 100% bad. Critics and regular TV watchers universally panned it.
Why even try making an american version? They would be better off just airing the original with reruns, and if they have to make something, make something original/new. I dont understand this need to make another version of something just because it rules. It is not like the British version is in a language most americans is unfamiliar with. I could perhaps understand it if they made an american version of shows in languages that no-one understands, like french. But hardly then either.
Absolutely. I haven't really caught onto the show yet, but turning a British sitcom into an American one is a TERRIBLE idea. British humor is a whole other genre.
Wasn't "All in the Family" (one of the greatest sitcoms of all time) a British remake? I remember hearing this when they were defending how "Coupling" could cross into the US mainstream. The show, however, was horrible... such a waste of a hot (yet aging) Rena Sofer.
I love Coupling, I have all 3 series on DVD. I absolutely cringed when I heard they were doing a US version. How anyone could hope to re-create the Jeff character, I really don't know. Personally, I don't really see the comparison to Friends. Sure, it's about six friends, but it's a much different sense of humour. It's not so much about clever one-liners, but silly situations. The episode where Jeff tells a girl he has an artificial leg, because he panics, is one of the most "laugh out loud" TV episodes I've ever seen. And the the one where he chats up the girl who speaks Hebrew. And the episode immediately after Steve and Susan break up... I could go on. Oh, and I understand that series 4 is in production now. If you drop me an e-mail, I might be able to arrange getting it across the Atlantic earlier than usual.
I've never heard of that, but maybe the original had a different name? I've also heard they're planning a US re-make of "The Office". I can't see how that's going to work either. If you get a chance to watch that, you should.
I totally agree. This is the episode when he meets his "dreamgirl" in the train to work, right? Damn, Jeff is madness. I also liked the one when he got a date with the czech au-pair girl at their local bar and they totally do not understand each one another. Excellent.
Excellent stuff. Jeff is total crazy. Have you seen the episode when he strips blindfolded in his bosses offices waiting to have sex and then finds out that all his co-workers are in the same room. Deadly. And all the jokes for the love of lesbian-p*rn stuff Susan's boyfriend has. Priceless.
Excellent show. I think it would have been a hit in America if they'd just picked up the British version instead of trying to remake it with American actors. Any of you that have BBC America on your cable, I'd highly recommend taking a look.
