First, last night on "NBA Fastbreak", the panel was discussing the playoff matchups that would be most interesting, with possible upsets. Both Legler and Bucher picked Rockets/Sonics as #3/#6 seeds in the West, with both saying the Rockets have a good chance of winning that series. Greg Anthony concurred, but said the matchup he is most interested in is the Grizzlies/Suns as #7/#2 seeds in the playoffs, believing that a well-balanced, deep Memphis team can upset the Suns in the first round. On another show (Jim Rome's "The Jungle" on radio this morning), Jim Rome was making a comment about the Rockets, saying they are playing well as of late, but that they will go nowhere as long as Yao Ming keeps playing the way he is playing. He said that he and just about everyone else expected "this guy" to be a more developed player, and make more strides, by his 3rd NBA season. He mocked the marketing of Yao Ming as the next "Shaq O'Neal", saying that the guy might not even be the next "Z Illgauskus". This was made as a passing mention early on in his show this morning. Just wanted to mention this, because I did not see them mentioned aywhere in the GARM ---Tiger
What I don't get it...who the hell marketed Yao Ming as the next Shaq anyway? The MEDIA First the media marketed Yao as the next Shawn Bradley. Then they saw that Yao doesn't suck. Suddenly, the media is marketing him as the next Shaq. Then they realize that Yao doesn't possess any of the physical abilities that Shaq has. Now they're forced the correct themselves again, but naturally putting the blame on Yao for not panning out to be what the media wanted him to be. Good Lord, just let Yao Ming develop into whatever the hell he's going to be. If he becomes dominant, great. If he ends up sucking, then so be it.
Jim Rome doesnt know sports from this ass, what else would you expect from a man that used to be a model on the HOME SHOPPING NETWORK!!! Yeah, it's true... everytime you hear him just think of him with a leather jacket on swinging side to side and feeling up and down on the leather and just think there is "FLEXPAY"
If Jim Rhome ever has an original thought, it will be his first. The guy has no credibility with anyone. He is not a serious sports journalist. He is an interviewer.... a Letterman of the sports arena. Period. I am not sweating HIS comments about anyone. Even if they are on the money, they are HIS comments and so without merit. He go them from someone else, bank on it!
Rome is and will always be a loud-mouthed A$$. The guy just blabbers about anything he can, its amazing how he has his own show. I guess he hasn't notice Yao's tear on the offensive end the last 15 games, shooting over 62%.
Rome has always bashed Yao. He said he'll be the biggest flop because who needs and jump shooting 7'6" center. Now Rome is saying he won't live up to expectations? Which set of expectations are that Rome?
A couple of days ago, rome was talking about Jon Cheney's self imposed suspension, and said he loved the guys old-school style. The next day (after everyone realizes a kid got his arm broken) he's bashing Cheney, saying that he deserves to get suspended for the year. He completely changed his take in a 24 hour period, and from that little snippet of his show, he lost all credibility with me.
Tiggermission lefted out something that Rome said during that take. He said that the Rockets "are rolling of late" but "Yao is not the reason for it." Just shows that Rome didn't actually watch Yao play during our win streak. He's so two months ago..
Rome = idiot. I enjoy his show, but you have to take everything he says with a MASSIVE helping of salt. He panders to what people want to hear and what interviews he can get. Six years ago, his show was MUCH, MUCH better than it is now. I still enjoy listening to it, but you have to take it for what it is -- entertainment. His bits on the Deion Sanders Hot-Dog machine Friday were great, but that's the best thing I've heard from him in probably a year.
