Couple who hushed boys in cinema are beaten up By Paul Stokes (Filed: 11 Jan 2002) A couple were viciously attacked by two adults after asking two boys to be quiet while watching The Lord of the Rings in a packed cinema. Andrew Morse and his fiancee Becky Brown, both 26, were unable to concentrate as the boys, aged about 14, swore repeatedly and used mobile telephones. They were subjected to a torrent of abuse when they told them to be quiet and reported the disturbance to staff at the Odeon, Doncaster. When Mr Morse, an engineer, and Miss Brown, who works with autistic children, left at the end they were attacked by the parents of one of the boys. Mr Morse's nose was broken and his lip cut. Miss Brown received a black eye, cut nose and bruised ribs. The parents, in their thirties, had arrived late for the showing on Saturday night and began drinking cans of lager. Miss Brown said: "I could not hear the early part of the film. The boys were swearing and rattling about. Then they got their mobiles out and all I could hear was bleeping." They swore when she asked them to stop. Miss Brown said: "The parents just sat there doing nothing. After I complained to staff, things quietened down for a while. "Then the kids started kicking my seat and coughing in my ear. None of the family were interested in watching the film." Describing the attack, Miss Brown said: "It was completely unprovoked. I was shocked, as about 600 people had been watching the film and nobody helped. "There was blood everywhere. The father was wearing rings and I think that is what did most of the damage to Andrew." The police are appealing for witnesses. --
I think there is a theory in sociology saying that the more poeple there are, the less likely you are to get help because they all think the next guy is going to jump in and help them. But it still sux.
they needed george costanza there!! "i'll take you outside and show you what it's like...and if you don't believe me, just try me...BECAUSE I WOULD LOVE IT!!!"
I always tell those damn punk a$$ kids to shutup.(I'm only 22) I didn't pay to hear them talk on their cell to their homeboys. Guess you will see me in the paper soon if I meet up with those punks and their folks... "Man gets arrested for shoving cans of lager in parents rectums! -Children can't find their cell phones either..."
They should of been packin. I would not have much remorse if Miss Brown would of pulled a gun out of her purse while she was being beaten and cap that fukker in the head. Even though social norms have gotten better through the years IMO, I think a lower percentage of people follow the norms of righteousness. All of the eyewitnesses should be ashamed of themselves for not doing a thing. Remember what Bernie Mac said about the difference between hoping and wishing? Apply that here.
In psychology, this theory is called the Bystander Effect. Everyone assumes someone else will help out, but no one actually does.
Ok You have a couple, An Engineer and a woman that works with Autistic children, and some parents of a couple of rowdy kids beat them up?? Whenever I see a movie, I HATE when people won't shut up or start talking on their phone. I'm one of those guys that yells "SSSHHHH" really loud and will stand up if I need to. But it pisses me off to hear that this "dad" was beating a guy and his wife, and no one stepped in. If I saw some guy beating a guy and his wife at the movies, I would at least try to break it up. Thats horrible......imagine you and your fiancee getting beat up together at the movies...thats rough!
This guy actually struck a woman he doesn't know? Some man he is! I wonder how he treats his wife? This guy sounds like a member of the Taliban. Since when is it even impolite to hush kids who are misbehaving regardless of whose kids they are? If their in a public place misbehaving and their parents aren't doing anything about it, then someone else has to. I hope he does get jail time. He deserves it. Were they drinking in the movie theater? That's real mature for a thirty-something to be doing. Some Americans are no better than the Taliban and it makes me ashamed to be in the same country with them. Period.
My mistake....it happened in the U.K. . They can do whatever over there....not my country. We've got enough morons to worry about over here.
I went to LOTR around new years and we had these kids about the same age doing the same thing. My cousin and I kept looking back and giving them the, I am really going to beat you down look, but they are young and tough and ignored our glances. When the movie was over We stood up, I am not bragging here but my cousin and I played Football in College. We were probably 5 inches taller than both these punks. I have never seen two skinny punks run faster in my life. It was comical but I had to see the Movie again because of the disturbance. Not that i mind, I was going to anyway. I just cant beleive people in a theater, totally classless
The boys were probably searching for the real ring, lol. Seriously though, I hate people talking/moving/talking on their phones etc...during movies. They think because its dark, no one can see them. When I saw LOTR (for the 3rd time), a couple came in with a PRAM!! I was hoping that maybe they kept food or something in it, but *shock* there was a baby in it. How can anyone bring a baby to a movie!?! Lucky it didn't make any noise during the movie though.
