You are on some kinda posting rampage IROC Anyway, this thread doesn't have to be a joke. Modern (so called) Country music is a joke. Most of it anyway. It's more like top 40 music. To find honest, real country music, you have to go back to the 40's and 50's. The greatest IMHO is Hank Williams-"I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry"
He was working through college on my grandpa's farm I was thirsting for for knowledge and he had a car I was caught somewhere between a woman and a child When one restless summer we found love growing wild On the banks of the river on a well beaten path Funny how those memories they last Like strawberry wine and seventeen The hot July moon saw everything My first taste of love oh bittersweet Green on the vine Like strawberry wine I still remember when thirty was old My biggest fear was September when he had to go A few cards and letters and one long distance call We drifted away like the leaves in the fall But year after year I come back to this place Just to remember the taste Of strawberry wine and seventeen The hot July moon saw everything My first taste of love oh bittersweet Green on the vine Like strawberry wine The fields have grown over now Years since they've seen a plow There's nothing time hasn't touched Is it really him or the loss of my innocence I've been missing so much Like strawberry wine and seventeen The hot July moon saw everything My first taste of love oh bittersweet Green on the vine Like strawberry wine
Great Day to Be Alive. Especially Cory Morrow style. Take me out to a Dancehall, Pat green. The Preacher, Cory Morrow. Nashville Blues, Cory Morrow. Margaritaville, Jimmy Buffet.
I like country music, but I will admit that some of the titles are a little humorous. So, for any aspiring country music writers out there, I've got a title for you to write a song about. It's a story about a man too broke to buy any viagra. The title is: "I Feel Like A Broke Dick Dog."
I know where you're coming from, Bob. But you're leaving quite a bit of good stuff out from the 60s and early 70s like most of John Cash, Waylon, Willie, Don Gibson (Tulsa time - i love that song), Roger Miller and a lot more. Hey Diseased Monkey, is that some kinda rip off of George Jones's Tennessee Whiskey?
I agree that it doesn't have to be a joke unless you are talking about modern day 'pop' country. Pretty much any Hank Williams Sr. song. But I'll say 'Lost Highway'
No One Else On Earth - Wynonna Take It Back - Reba Georgia On My Mind - Ray Charles <-- is this considered country? --rockit
There is a lot of Ray Charles that is classified within the 'country' genre. In fact, he has an awesome boxset that is a compilation of many of his 'Country & Western' cuts. (From Salon.com) Ray Charles' country albums are honored with another thoughtful bit of Rhino repackaging, "Ray Charles: The Complete Country & Western Recordings, 1959-1986." If Michael Jordan were a better baseball player, he would be the Ray Charles of sports. Here, the man who practically invented modern R&B brings his unique talents for gospel, jazz and soul singing to various country classics. Charles' Hank Williams covers are particularly illuminating, and, even after all these years, it's hard to resist the emotional wallop of "I Can't Stop Loving You."
