CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more. "Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac." CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo. (http://store.steampowered.com/app/1800/)
omggggggggggg childhood gaming addiction RELAPSE!!!! *calls the team back together* *registers for CAL*
When I played paintball a couple weeks ago, I made a Counterstrike reference to some 14-year old kid. He looked at me with a blank stare because he didn't know what CS was. Made me feel old. CS was a good game, but I hated when they tried to make it too realistic and screwed with the physics. 1.6 was the last good update. It went bad after that.
I hope its a completely new engine... I'm not going to buy CS:Source with new modes or something. That's a ripoff.
I never got to play CS. I played Rogue Spear in my days, which I think was before CS. That was good too. We need more FPS games.
I'm an old school CS player (started around 2000) and I still play cs 1.6. I never liked CS:S and I feel, though it's a decent game on its own, that it doesn't even come close to capturing what made 1.6 (and earlier versions) so great. If you'd like to get an idea of how someone like me feels about CS:GO, read this article: http://www.sk-gaming.com/content/34371-Cldrn_Will_Global_Offensive_make_CS_go To give a brief summarization if you don't feel like reading all that there are two main points about CS:GO that I feel should be made: 1. Valve didn't create the original Counter-Strike, they simply owned the rights to the engine the game was written on. They took over starting at cs1.0 (and have, arguably, made some pretty questionable gameplay changes since then.) They also created CS:S, which I previously have given my opinion on. Gooseman, the man largely responsible with creating the original CS on the GoldSRC engine has nothing to do with CS:GO. 2. Valve has been flying in pro CS:S players to get their opinions on the gameplay, NOT pro CS1.6 players. This further illustrates that they are likely creating a spirtual successor to CS:S and not CS1.6. The article goes much more in depth if you are interested. If you're a big fan of CS:S then CS:GO will probably be right up your alley. If you've been playing CS since the glory days and want to see a game that recaptures the gameplay of the old GoldSRC Counter-Strike, you may be sorely disappointed. All that being said, most of Valve's games are awesome, and they may pull something out their ass that blows everyone out of the water. So who knows, just giving my 2 cents.
Hmmm, let's see if I Remember... B, 4, 1 B, 6 B, 8, 1 B, 8, 2 B, 8, 3 Go! Go! Go! I haven't played in so long...
school, get home, scrim scrim scrim scrim scrim scrim, dinner break, scrim scrim scrim scrim scrim scrim scrim scrim, sleep.... repeat
Couple things; I've played CS since about 1.3, so I'm not the oldest of the old school. With that said, I liked 1.6 better than Source -- but I think a lot of complaints are overblown. I generally trust Valve and I think it'll be a good game. The fact that they're bringing in Pro players at ALL is a big deal to me. For the most part Valve hasn't let competitive player opinion influence them much at all. As for your point regarding them bringing in Source Pro players over 1.6 -- I don't think it's as big of a deal as you think. I played Source professionally and the communities were essentially the same people around the time I quit. I imagine several of those Source players are from 1.6 if not the majority.
I also played from 1.3 to 1.6. Never got into Source when it came out, so I hope CS:GO doesn't suck. Now that I think about it, I can credit this game for making me fat. It's been a b**** to lose the weight, and my life probably would have been a lot better if I never had a PC in middle/high school. That being said, I still wanna play this.
I started playing CS from 2002... there was a large hiatus from 2005 to 2010 but I got back into it again.
OK, I want to play CS 1.6 again too (it's been too long since my AWPing days). How can I get started? Buy Half Life first?
