I wonder what historical data says about length of time for the consensus top FA to make their decision on where they will sign.
2012: Deron Williams: Jul 03, 2012 2011: Nothing really special. Nene was unrestricted but I think signed mid season. Marc Gasol was restricted, so there wasn't a big deal there. I believe Josh Smith was restricted and matched late summer as well. I am curious to see how different this process is for him and how much quicker he will get a deal done. I bet he waits to see all of the pieces fall. 2010: Lebron: Thursday, July 8, at 9 p.m. ET. 2009: Kobe was the only one that was worth anything. 2008: Elton Brand: July 10, 2008, Baron Davis: July 11, 2008 Josh Smith Just looking back five years, they usually take about 8 days. So, Dwight will be a Houston Rockets July 8th.
I hope Lakers really want to stick to their 2014 plan and not take back on that clipper trade. Just let him walk down to Houston. Howard and Asik would be cool
My vacation starts at the same time as free agency and I'll be somewhere without internet. D'oh! I'll be back in time for signings, but I'll miss all the juicy rumors and announcements of intentions. Sucks.
Howard could drag his decision on for a month! Not sure if Harden and Parsons sending him love tweets is enough to convince him before FA begins. My guess is his head will be spinning 1 week into it and he'll have players giving him guilt trips, and media calling him all kinds of names from all kinds of angles and he will lose sight of what he really wants and will end up settling for whatever he thinks will cause the least amount of harm to his reputation. That will be by signing with the Lakers.
I think Howard will take up most of the period for exploration (July 1-10) and then make a decision on the 11th or 12th. I just can't see why the hell he would go back to LA. I go on vacation the 4th-11th. Looking forward to being able to watch in unfold while relaxing. Howard ends up here IMO.
I'm leaning towards this scenario. For some reason I never thought Dwight would come here from the beginning and besides I don't really like the dude.
I don't see Howard dragging this out. CP3 will probably sign with the Clippers within the first couple of days. Then everyone is just waiting on Howard. -Clips will offer Griffin and Bledsoe in a SnT for Howard. -Houston will be the first ones at the table. Harden, Parsons, and Asik will all be highlighted, plus the flexibility to add another significant player in 2015 (or earlier if Asik/Lin are traded). -Dallas will say that Dirk will take a big pay cut in 2014 to bring in another star, but the problem with their proposal is that its a promise to win in the future, not today. Dirk/Howard isn't near enough to win the West, and who knows what the FA market will really look like a year from now. -The Lakers have a similar problem to Dallas.....they can't win today, so they have to sell the future. The difference is they have Phil as a trump card, and if it comes down to it, MDA is out and Phil is in. All of these things are being discussed, so nothing will be a surprise on July 1st. In fact, I think the decision has already been made. At the end of the day, Howard will decide between the money with the Lakers (despite the after tax difference), and the ability to win now with the Rockets. IMO, he will choose the Lakers.
Man, this long ass wait. First things first - T-Rob needs to be traded so we can give Mr Howard close max contract. I praying Royce is also gone also July 1st.
I say lets grow together with Asik, TJones, Parsons, Harden, and Lin, but if we need to upgrade anywhere it would be at PG. Not that I dont like Lin but his style of play cant coexist with Hardens if we want to go to the next level.
I don't think he'll drag on his decision too long, for the simple fact that if he is coming here, the Rockets are going to let him know that they'll need him to make a decision so that we can make other moves.
There's no need to dump Robinson unless and until Howard commits. Unless they already think Robinson is a dud. Royce, however, can go whenever. And sit on millions in unused cap space? No thanks. They preload it with materials for their pitch. Sure, the free agents already have their own, but at the dollars they operate in, they can hand out iPads the way we might swap USB drives.
Its only happened once when the Rockets were recruiting Bosh. At that time, believe it or not, I-Pads were new and popular. They have video's loaded on it from Hakeem, Yao, etc. I guess it was alot easier than popping a VHS tape in his VCR to watch a home movie. So basically its just a GARM joke because everyone on here is too cool for school and IPads are so old news.
