It's time for my Annual "Countdown to summer vacation". Next week is the last week of school. My walls are bare, my books are packed, and I'm ready to clear out for next year. My students English TAKS results came back and my first semester kids had an 83% pass rate and 2nd semester kids had an 89% pass rate. My year round class had a 100% pass rate. We also read three novels and a Shakespearean play. My basketball team won a 1st place trophy and consolation in the two tourneys we played and finished as district champs. This year was quite a bit of work, but overall very enjoyable. I think I've earned this vacation.
Yep, every year at this time, I regret not putting my teaching degree to good use. Of course, it doesn't help that 3 of my family members are teachers and most of my friends are band directors.
Although you have the summer vacation, FT, most of us have the better paying jobs (I know since both my parents were teachers).
I'll be thinking about that as I wake up late trying to decide what to do with my hard earned money that I will continue to collect for the next three months.
Make sure you leave as fast as you can on the last day........you don't want to get caught teaching the summer school reading class.
I found a summer school app, summer curriculum writing form, and summer workshop invitations in my file at work. All three went straight into the trash can.
All personal choices. Personally, I'll enjoy taking the family to the park, the beach, a matinee, fishing, bicycling, swimming, vegging...whatever strikes my fancy. Money's nice, and I could take a summer job and make more, but I would rather spend my extra time enjoying my family and life.
5 for me too. I'm actually going to work this summer though. I'll help out in the tech dept. 4 days a week. Next summer will be the interesting one though, when the mandatory start date kicks in. Next summer will be loooong. We officially get out on May 24, 2007 and with the new start date in effect, I don't think we can start until August 27.
Yep, there's nothing like hitting a matinee in the middle of the week. My son and I have seen several movies where we were the only people in the theater.
Good for you...I always wanted to have summers off...If I could find a way to make a lot of money and still have the summers off, I'd be golden...I bet the summer goes by quickly though right?
I just can't bring myself to do summer work with Tara and the kids at home. That longer vacation and a $3,000 raise next year will be nice. The following year, I'll have my masters and with my step raise, should add another 3k to my salary.
I totally understand the work thing. My wife works year round so I don't have her at home. I'll have one day each week for me and my oldest son to do things. I'll also have a week in June when we are going to Schlitterbahn, and we don't work one week in July. I'm going to end up using most of the extra money to help with some of the repairs I'm still doing thanks to Rita.
