Monday April 9 8:16 PM ET Clinton Critic Takes Aim at Republican Leader WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A conservative public interest watchdog group that hounded Democratic President Bill Clinton for years now plans to target Tom DeLay, third-ranking Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives. Judicial Watch, which challenged Clinton's ethics on a variety of fronts, from pardons to fund-raising, said on Monday it intends to take on DeLay for allegedly offering to sell potential donors access to members of the Bush administration. Larry Klayman, the group's chairman and general counsel, said Judicial Watch will bring ``multiple legal action'' against DeLay as well as the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). Klayman refused to elaborate on the action, saying he would announce specifics at a news conference on Tuesday in Washington. Spokespersons for DeLay and the NRCC said DeLay had done nothing wrong in seeking Republican donations of $300 to $500. DeLay made the appeal on behalf of the NRCC in a recorded telephone message to small business owners. According to a source close to the fund-raising pitch, DeLay said in it: ``I am asking you to serve as an honorary member of our new business advisory council.'' ``As an honorary member, you will be invited to meetings with top Bush administration officials where your opinions on matters like tax reform will be heard,'' the source quoted DeLay as saying. Steve Schmidt, an NRCC spokesman, said Democrats and Republicans alike provide donors access to political figures at their respective fund-raisers. ``This is no different than going to a fund-raiser for a local mayor, congressional or gubernatorial candidate where you get to say hello and shake hands with them,'' said Schmidt. DeLay spokeswoman Emily Miller said, ``This is a much ado about nothing, and proves that anyone in America can file a lawsuit.'' Klayman said the pending legal action shows Judicial Watch is willing to take on anyone, Republican or Democrat, if they believe they have crossed the line. ``Our mandate is not to have a double standard,'' Klayman said. Last week, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and DeLay ended a nearly one-year legal fight over DeLay's fund-raising methods, with both sides claiming victory. The DCCC, which filed suit against the Texas Republican last May, said it had managed to effectively dismantle DeLay's campaign fund-raising machine, stopping what it alleged to be unlawful practices. But DeLay denied he had done anything wrong, and an aide said he had helped raise more money than ever in the past three months. I will give them credit. They say they don't want to have a double standard and they back it up. ------------------ And then, depression set in...
I can't stand Bill Clinton, and I think that the Ex-President is a traitor to our country. I appreciate what Larry Klayman did to try to correct a few of the many wrongs of the past 8 years. If Larry Klayman says that Tom Delay has crossed an ethical line, I think we all should listen. Although I have admired some of Delay's work, despite the fact that Delay mixes politics and religion too often, I know that no man is perfect. Too, all men of power need to be humbled frequently. Larry Klayman is just the man for the task. ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
That is a very serious charge. What proof do you offer? What about DeLay's work is there to admire? ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer? Join now! The Rockets will be NBA champions. Believe.
Puedlfor, Bill Clinton accepted campaign money from James Riady of the Lippo Group, which is a holding company controlled by the Red Chinese. In return for campaign cash, the ChiComs got super computers that can guide missles to any spot in our country. The CIA and the NSA were among the many organizations that advised against sending any more super computers to China, but Bill Clinton signed off on the sale anyway. This single act of arming our only real enemy with the technology to blackmail us, in exchange for campaign cash, is enough to make my blood boil. Unfortunately, I have a 100 more examples, and I will be glad to share them when I am not so tired. Until tomorrow...... ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
I thought Chinese were more yellow than red. Native Americans are kind of red, though. I'm a shade of t***y pink b/c I got fried this weekend. ------------------ \../

Clinton a traiter? Oh yeah, sure. Yeah, he really hurt the country while he was in office, didn't he. He's only been out of office for 2.5 months, and already George has undid all the good President Clinton did. He's on the verge of starting WW3, and has sent the economy to hell. Yeah, he's a hero... ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
ZR8- THe market was coming down long before Bush took over. How would you correct the Chinese problem. Should we without an investigation say we are wrong and that our plane crashed into their plane? They are holding our men illegaly, since we were not flying in their air space. Let me see what we got with Willy. More cigars being consumed, a bunch of crooks being pardoned at the last minute. Yeah what a guy. A person who is not in integrity at work is not in integrity as a person. His lasting legacy will be a good econemy for most of his years, basically he was wise to not bother Greenspan and to stay out of the way.
If Bill Clinton is a traitor for doing what you mentioned above (if what you mentioned is true), than Ronald Reagan is just as much of a traitor(or even more so) for selling arms to Iran in order to finance the Contras in Nicaragua. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
Good MOrning Rocket FAns! Interesting... Do you apply this thinking to all people, or just republicans? RMT not to mention what dear ol' daddy Bush did while in office. ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is.
Tweak, He DID hurt the country! I will say he was very intelligent guy, but if he didn't have all the scams, this country would be in a much better condition. Clinton would have the China/plane problem over quickly ... in exchange for a couple hard drives of classified nuclear information or perhaps a key to every door in the white house. RocketMan Tex- I will not condone about the contras, but there is a difference in supplying your biggest enemy with computers that can guide missles into your own country and giving a bunch of guys so weapons to fight in their own country! ------------------ Im too drunk to walk ... Im driving home!
I just can't stand DeLay because living here in Houston, you can see his handiwork everywhere. He is even disliked within his own party in Harris County (trust me on that one!). I don't care much about this group's platforms, but I am glad that they saw fit to go after DeLay. ------------------ And then, depression set in...
I love this! Red China, lol! When are the Chinese gonna come kill us all? China should fear us, we should not fear it. After all, we are the only ones who have attacked the other (Korean War when we went a little too far north...only to get driven back out). What people dod not seem to realize is that China would have no interest in attacking US...they are too ethnocentric -- they only care about Asia. Oh yeah, they might want to regain control of Taiwan and we cannot allow a big country to pick on a little one. We would never do such a thing. ------------------ Whitey will pay.
I will answer you in a new thread since this has gotten off topic. ------------------ Bob Rainey is my hero!
The United States should apologize, and get it over with. I think Bush would prefer a war. Clinton didn't start the scandal. No, that was thanks to the republicans. Rather than trying to improve the country, they spent those eight years trying to get rid of Clinton. Every day they started a new rumor, and even dug into the man's sex life just to try and get rid of him. Its nice to see that the Republicans care so much about the country. I don't need to list examples of what President Clinton achieved. All you have to do is think back to 1992, and remember the piss-poor state that this country was in under Daddy Bush. Had Clinton, or Gore for that matter, been in this current situation with China, it would have been resolved a week ago. To ignore all the good that President Clinton did for the economy, the environment and minorities in is just lame. Stop focusing on that republican induced scandal, and realize that Clinton is in fact, GOD! ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. Man, even I wouldn't go that far about China, ZRB. We were flying over international waters, as recognized by EVERYONE in the world except China. They flew two planes FAR too close to ours, and caused the crash. Our plane was THREE times slower than theirs... there is no concievable way that the spy plane could have been the culpable party. That's like a turtle running into a cheetah. Luckily, official US policy dictates that vulnerable materials must be destroyed before a possible seizure of materials. The odds are, they've learned almost nothing from that plane. But they're still holding US property and servicemen against international law. They are the bad guys in this situation. Apologizing just encourages such behavior in the future. A statement of regret was appropriate and should have been given sooner. Anything more... would be a lie. Oh, and World War 3 isn't about to happen anytime soon. Everyone knows that launching a nuclear missile means getting completely incinerated. Our conventional forces could take China without problems. So unless you think WE are going to launch first, breath easier. Stay away from paranoia, it's bad for your heart . Oh, and on the subject of Clinton... the computers you're talking about could have been purchased from the Russians, easily. It's not like they got access to something that's exclusive technology. Besides, if Russia had sold it to the Chinese, we wouldn't have the extra $. Finally, you have to look at the broader context. We've been selling advanced weaponry to Taiwan for years... a place we don't even officially recognize as a country. I mean, I think a great many of us would be angry if China started selling advanced technology to the separatists in North Dakota. Clinton sold China missile guidance systems to better relations. And it worked, to an extent. Now, all that work is being undone by our idiotic current occupant who doesn't even understand the future subjunctive tense by doing lame-brained things like labelling China a "strategic competitor." How stupid is that? No benefit, but it pisses the Chinese off. If he had not done that, CHINA WOULD NOT BE HOLDING US AIRMEN. World War III. HAHAHAHAHA. China versus U.S. That is some funny stuff. U.S. Pacific Fleet has 50 nuclear submarines undetectable to the Chinese. If China declares war These would: a)destroy the Chinese Navy, and b) blockade China. U.S. Air Force has very very many stealth fighters and bombers. If china declase war These would: a) destroy the tiny Chinese Air Force, and b) rain destruction on any target in China. U.S. Strategic Air Command has very very many nuclear weapons. If China launches nukes, these would: a)probably eliminate a large piece of the Asian continent entirely. Under no circumstances can China threaten the United States militarily unless they want to die, or be severely beaten. Chinese manpower would never get a chance to show their superiority because they could not be transported over to the U.S. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
