I have an observation here. I believe that Tracy McGrady could be considered in the MVP race. Now I know, it took a while for him to get into the system here in Houston, but the recent streak, there have been times where he has carried us on his back. This kinda reminds me of what Beltran did for the 'Stros when he finally worked his way into the system. Now, he probably would not win the MVP, even if he went on to score 50 points a game for every game, because players like LeBron and Nash have been proving themselves all season, but it is likely that he could be up there in the votes. What a player to behold!
I think we would have to slowly continue to win and move higher up in the rankings of the western division for him to get a look at the MVP. If we finish up in the lowe part we really won't have a chance at him getting the MVP award. If we continue to surge the way we are and our play conitnues to get better and his average in all categories are up there he could have a chance.
the mvp is usually the best player on the best team (if not best then 2nd or 3rd at worst). TMac is the best player on a middle of the pack team. He has NO chance and shouldn't even be considered.
So Bron shouldnt be in the race??? Middle of the pack team-5th place in the LEASTERN Conference... Tracy should have as much of a shot as some of the other names that are being tossed around... I think the problem with the MVP is EVERYONE thinks it means something different.. Does it stand for the best player number wise? Does it stand for the best player on the best team? Does it stand for the player that helps his team the most? Does it stand for the NBAs biggest monetary asset? AKA YAO Sure it should be a player that is strong in all of the above, but it's mostly just one of the above... I think the MVP is a sham, a number system should be in place to make this a easy pick so everyone can see who is the best..
No chance at all. There is reason that TMac is regarded as TMgreedy by some league insiders. Unless we are in the top 3-4 teams in the West, neither TMac nor Yao has a chance even if they have great stats.
Not this year. The Rockets would have to go something like 25-8 the rest of the way for T-Mac to even have a shot. I'd say the favorites right now are Nash, LeBron, and Shaq, with Nash having the edge.
I'd say its a long shot. Several more deserving guys in front of him 1. Nash 2. Duncan 3. Dirk 4. LeBron 5. T-Mac or Ray Allen
Dallas,Seattle, and Phoenix all have problems w/the halfcourt game and the matchups just don't look good for them.Out of these teams ,I would say Phoenix has the best chance. While I think Lebron will be the best player in the league eventually, the Cavs aren't going to get past Shaq and the Heat. Speaking of the Heat,Shaq would have to be given serious consideration. Duncan and the Spurs were the preseason favorites and they haven't done anything to change my mind. That said the Rockets look to be headed toward the 3 or 4 seed w/a bullet. If we finish strong with momentum going into the playoffs,TMac should be in the thick of it. my list.. Duncan Shaq TMac Nash Lebron
You must have extremely high standards for what is considered consistent. 25.8 ppg / 5.7 apg / 6.3 rpg / 1.7 spg is inconsistent? I'd say he's done more than show flashes. He did have a slow start. But, what he's done since mid Dec has been pretty damn good.
Sorry bud, we're currently 6th place and will most likely stay here. They usually pick MVPs whose team is at the top of the standings. There are players right now that are a lot more valuable to the team and have their team at the top. Even Dirk would be ahead of TMac and they never mention his name. Guys like Nash, Duncan, Wade, Lebron, Shaq, and maybe even Ray Allen are the front runners.
He'll never have a shot at it with a player as good as Yao on the same team anyway. There are guys who win with less.
Shaq won the MVP with Kobe on the team. Jordan did with Pippen on the team. Karla with Flopton, too. If the Rockets become an elite team in the near future (hopefully), TMac will have a legit shot at winning the MVP award. It's not going to happen this year, though.
What I can't believe is how Tim Duncan doesn't get any MVP run, and neither does Shaq. I guess they are taken for granted b/c they do it every single night and it has just become the norm. The Suns pretty much have the same team as last season and they already have more wins than all of last year. Personally I think Steve Nash should be MVP.
this year might be tough, but it's too early to count him out. if he keeps playing like he's been after that first month and we finish the 2nd half strong he's going to get some votes. i think his stats are going to be great, it's the wins and how strong we finish that are really going to be the determinant. i think we can make a big push in the second half not just have to fight for the 6th-8th spots.
He is flourishing on a team full of underachievers, has-beens and misfits. Whether or not the Rox secure one of the top seeds I think T-Mac has been the most challenged superstar in the league and deserves a look. Nice thread.
Tracy should be considered for MVP, He has done the most for his team. Common, he was playing with a whole new team and after making a few adjustments to the team look at the result. T-mac has now became comfortable with the system, but he has always been a great player. He's an MVP candidate in my book. I watch him play and I am in awe sometimes saying, how did we get such a great player.
Hasn't he twice been named Western Conference player of the Month? Yeah, I'd say he's in consideration.
