Not if the third max contract is a 26-year-old power forward with career averages of 19/10 who plays great D and has high character. That's not stupid at all; if the Rockets could get Brand without giving up Yao or T-Mac, they would. That said, it's stupid to think the Rox could get him... When the CLIPPERS are willing to spend money to keep you, you're not going anywhere.
Maybe Clutch will do, or is currently doing an analysis on the prospects on landing Brand... who knows?
Given that Clutch's profiles are all on 2005 Free Agents and that Brand won't be a Free Agent until after the 2008-09 season where he made $16.4m, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet Clutch won't be including Brand.
Not to be a jerk or anything, but last I checked Jason Kidd and Ron Artest will both be under contract next year
How many of our expiring contracts would that take to get Brand here? Even if they wouldn't do it, how could we get it done? Brand is not really a guy that carries a team. The clips may be looking for a different type of star. Of course, who would want to trade Brand for purely expiring contracts?
I looked it up on Real GM and we do have guys that they would have to want, but it could happen. I think there are better options out there for the Clippers but if they want our role players and no longer want Brand, I'd do it. I think I put in Wesley, James and Sura for Brand. You could take out Sura a put in Howard if they want a PF. This is highly unlikely as we all know, but possible.
Not to be too defensive or anything, but... * all 5 PF's profile are/will be free agents. * Jason Kidd was quoted as having an interest in playing for Houston. * Artest has a checkered past and trade speculation is rampant. Maybe Clutch will do Elton when he's quoted in the press as wanting to play with TMac and Yao or when Brand starts stalking opposing players.
We could send expiring contracts to Minny, Minny sends KG to the Clipps, the send Elton Brand to us, and we could pick up Santa Claus through free agency.
I hear Santa is kind of slow laterally, but packs more beef than "Two Sandwiches" in the paint. Of course if we picked him up we would have to be prepared for the inevitable Man Boobs comparisons from the Amaechi fans. EDIT: On a side note, if we packaged Santa and the Easter Bunny, we might be able to net Kobe from the Lakers.
