Since they are looking for more immigrants, I am sure many Mexicans would be willing to go there. That would ease the pressure on the US too, good for everyone! link Minister: Canada Needs More Immigrants Thu Oct 13, 8:11 PM ET MONTREAL - Canada's foreign affairs minister said Thursday that the country badly needed more immigrants to replace aging workers who are headed for retirement. ADVERTISEMENT Pierre Pettigrew said that increasing the population to 40 million by welcoming more immigrants would help foot the bill for new infrastructure, such as roads and bridges. "This is a vast country, the infrastructure is expensive and it's a bigger country than the United States is," Pettigrew said. "I am saying that if we were 40 million Canadians, that infrastructure would not be necessarily a lot more expensive, but we would be more (people) to foot the bill." The minister, in comments to reporters after a speech in Montreal, said Canada was built by immigrants and that's the way it would continue to be built. Canada's population of just under 32 million has grown by only three million in the past decade. The federal government is set to unveil a new immigration plan this month that would open its doors to 320,000 skilled immigrants a year by the time the plan is fully implemented in five years.
If they want people to 'foot the bill', then they will need to look for wealthy, college-educated people (mostly from third-world countries) that can immediately join the workforce in some form or fashion. BTW, France is not doing well, and I am sure many of the young French college grads would love to get a chance to start a new life in a beautiful, friendly place like Canada.
OK, I never come in here to argue anything, and fearing that I might not have the correct vocabulary to do so, here is my first genuine response to something posted here in the D & D : Did you mean GOOD for everyone in the United States, good for the world, good for the Border Patrol, good for people against Mexicans in the United States, or good for Mexicans? Please state who is in the "everyone" group you mention. Or, lastly, and this will prompt me to SU, were you joking? If you were, that was certainly an funny joke ... why single out US MEXICANS? There are people from OTHER countries here too, you know.
Oh, this is a joking thread? OK... Would those Mexican immigrants use immigration to Canada as a loophole to enter the U.S. from the north border instead of the southern one? (since you know we aren't nearly as concerned about Canadians coming into this country illegally)
tiger, Nah, I just had to ask if he meant it as a joke or not. I am not used to being in the d and d. To answer your question, I think it's easier to get into the U.S. through the southern border than going through Canada to get here.(that didn't sound right, eh? ya hoser...) It would be too much work to have to go North then South. And in regards to the education factor, I don't think educated people here in The States would like to work in the places where illegals work (construction, gardening, service, maintenance, etc.), so they wouldn't do it in Canada either. But nonetheless, I don't think we Mexicans like the cold weather very much. Certainly there are MANY Mexicans working in the northern states, as evidence will tell you about it in Ohio (Columbus and Toledo have high percentages of their populations as Hispanic or just Mexican) and Illinois (Chicago). That's why we love California (not to mention we were there ALREADY before the U.S. came), Arizona, and Texas. That, and the Bar-B-Que here is great. I am still waiting for pirc1 to answer.
Canada is NOT looking for the type of immigrant you describe as they have pretty strict immigration standards. You have to take a test to qualify for immigration based on what you can bring to the economy. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.html I filled out the skilled worker test and based it on the fact pattern of a single person 21-49 years old with a high school diploma that could speak, understand, write, and read English at a moderate level (but no French) and had 4 plus years as a skilled worker. I felt liek I was being generous with the language issue sicne most Mexican immigrants can neither speak much less read or write English. That test got a 33. I then took the test based on skills I would have as a Law School graduate with no French language skills and no previous law employment set up in Canada. I also added in the fact that my wife has a college degree. I got a 55. You need a 67 to pass.
Hey, D&D dudes... how am I doing in my first REAL D&D thread? I also forgot to say: MISLEADING/IRRELEVANT/INSENSITIVE Thread title. I'm joking...
This is sort of a joking thread but not completely. Since we had so many bitter debates on the issue previously, I thought hey this could be a part of the solution! If Cananda is interested in immigrants, I am sure many nations including China, India, Mexico, ... would be willing to help work out agreements to supply both skilled and unskilled immigrants.
I don't know what you meant as far as soccer "analogies". Explain, please, so I can give you a good one. Enjoy this soccer gem. You don't need to know Spanish to understand "gooOOoOooool". Check out the HIPPIE.
Haha! Good one I didn't have a specific analogy in mind, but anything political would be fine I guess
