With Brian Cardinal getting paid by Memphis for the MLE

Most likey that they will let Swift walk ?

I would love to have him !!

He could also play center as well!!

    Just needs to play

Mad hops !!!! Can be a beast if motivated and is awesome defensively !!!

At this point i would be happy with Fish and Swift

    and conclude an Awesome offseason

I don't see why they would let Swift walk. He's clearly more talented than Cardinal and they can match any offers for him.

And if West is letting him walk, I'm not sure I'd want him.

check on realgm right now there is an article about the knicks wanting to offer swift the full MLE. the article also says that the grizz, fresh off the aquisition of the costodian, will probably NOT match that kind of offer.

memphis has the full bird rights on swift so i think any offer could be matched. I doubt we would be able to ever be able to get him through SnT with the TE since memphis is in our own division

    Can Memphis match?

They can go over the cap to match restricted FA's?

If they can't or won't match, offer him the full MLE for the MAX number of years. That means around 8M in the LAST year of that contract, which is peanuts for a guy who can block shots, rebound, and jump like a madman. The guy is young too, and don't forget...

STROMILE SWIFT'S FAVORITE TEAM IS THE ROCKETS!

I remember reading that somewhere when he was entering the draft.

So if it's between us and anyone else, I think he'll come to the Rockets.

The problem is, if they don't match till the 15th day, we're screwed because all other FA's would have been snapped up.

Swift can not hit the mid-range J nor can really play effective as a center.

You're simply wrong. Swift can hit that midrange J when open, although it's not his strength.

Aside from that, he has been most effective when playing C alongside Gasol in Memphis.

Howard will start. I like Swift, but we would need to get rid of one of our other PF first. Swift could probably play backup C a bit.

If the Rockets arent in a HURRY to look for FAs (now that Barry is gone) maybe they take a flyer and offer Swift the full MLE and see if they can get him. Chances are they wont be able to, but if you arent in a hurry and can afford to wait it might be worth a shot. I think Swift at FULL MLE money is a lot better value than Skinner, Blount, Cardinal, and Etan Thomas at full MLE money. Swift has a lot more upside and would seem to be a VERY good compliment to Yao's game being that Swift is long and very mobile.

If Memphis resigns swift, they torpedo themselves for next year, when they have Outlaw, Watson, Battier & Gasol as FA's. I don't thik they will.

If there is a chance to land Swift, we should pursue him. But we better have a solid plan to rid ourselves of Maurice Taylor, and I don't know what that would be.

Isn't Juwan Howard better than any power forward still available?

Swift would be a great pick-up if we can find some way to unload Mo-T. It's funny to think how less bloated his contract seems today then it did a month ago when guys like Brian Cardinal weren't getting pizzaid.

Still, Mo is overpaid imo, and would be much better off in the East (Cleveland  ). I'd much rather have Stromile, who has fairly productive stats in his 19 mpg (nearly as good as MoT, much better defensively, in 7 less minutes).

    So,

MoT, Pike, AG and the TE

    for

    Illgauskas, Ollie and Newble

Then sign Swift to the full MLE?

    Yao/Illgauskas
    Swift/Howard/Spoon
    JJ/Boki/Newble
    T-Mac/Newble
    Lue/Ollie

Cleveland gets to re-sign Boozer and don't rip their team apart. They have two solid C's in Diop and Battie. More than enough for the East.

We clear up a PF slot for Swift, as well as clear a tiny bit of capspace. Ollie and Newble make a combined 6M, while MoT and Pike make 11M. Illgauskas gone after a year, serves as a wonderful backup for one year or half a year.

If, at midseason, someone is willing to offer us a very good young SF or PG for Illgauskas, do it. If not, keep him and add role players following summer.

I'd be fine with that one (it's very similar to one I suggested and which you called too extreme, by the way). I think if Cleveland really wants to keep Boozer, we could get Wagner instead of Newble in that deal. Also, I don't think we would need to trade Griffin.

PG: Ollie, Lue (nice change of pace), Wagner
    SG: T-Mac, Wagner, Gaines
SF: Jim Jackson, Boki, A. Griffin
    PF: Howard, Swift (MLE), Weatherspoon
    C: Yao Ming, Ilgauskas

    Sounds good to me!

I like Stromile Swift alot. Even more than that I like the fact of sticking it to the Grizzlies like they stuck it to us last year in FA with Posey.lol
Seriously, if we offer MLE to Swift I wouldn't mind one bit. If Van Gundy can turn a lazy Cato into a pretty good defensive backbone, i'de love to see what he can do to an energetic and young Stromile Swift.
I'de try to throw whatever means at him. The guy is an energy guy. Could fill in nicely with the loss of Cato. He's a pretty strong guy and his leaping ability could slot him into the backup center role as well.
He could be a Theo Ratliff/kelvin Cato type for us.
    THROW THE FULL MLE!

I'd love to pick up Swift. I'm skeptical of reports that Jerry West wouldn't match a Knicks offer of the full MLE. And if West wouldn't match, then I'd be wary of making Swift the offer. I don't think West is god like some people, but I respect him enough that if he's not willing to offer Swift what he offered Cardinal, then we should be wary.

SamFisher makes a good point about the Grizzlies needing money next year. Now that they have Cardinal, is Swift worth the entire MLE to them? Unless they decide to match, sign, and trade him.

    SJC,

I believe your deal was Illgauskas, Diop and Wagner which I said was too extreme ;) .

I think we're actually doing them a favor in this one. Newble and Ollie don't seem to be fitting in for them. Pike for Ollie is a deal they wanted to do, it benefits them. Newble means nothing to them now that hey have Luke Jackson and they would have Pike as well. Jumaine Jones is there too. They may re-sign Eric Williams, who knows.

The deal I offered doesn't really rape and pillage their team, which is entirely possible btw. It actually keeps them respecteable. Diop and Battie take over C, while MoT becomes the backup PF. McInnis and Wagner at PG. Jackson, Pike and Jumaine at the 3. Lebron at the 2. Not that much worse than they were hoping for going into next season.
