It doesn't really make sense to say you could care less.

I never understood why people say that.

I always say I could care less but ultimately I don't really care enough to.

 

Its just one more phrase that has been butchered and bastardized by fast talking americans.

 

I always correct people who say "could care less." If you could possibly care less about it, you care for it somewhat. If you "couldn't care less," you cannot possibly care any less about it.

 

This irks me too. Another one is "That's curious."

as in you care the very least you possibly could.

 

Then it's very polite to say I could care less because although I could care less, I am caring some.

 

I always said "couldn't" and people would correct me. Finally, I just decided it was easier to day it incorrectly so people would shut up. Don't you know the first time I said "could" to someone the jerk corrected me in a real snobby manner.
