Seattle Post-Intelligencer Reporter: Point guard Kevin Ollie isn't used to guarantees. At least not in NBA contracts. That could change after the Sonics free agent was offered a four-year contract by another team yesterday that could be in the range of $10 million over the course of the deal. Ollie's agent, Bill Neff, would not specify the team -- only that it's not the Sonics. It could be the Milwaukee Bucks, the team that traded Ollie to the Sonics on Feb. 20 along with Ray Allen for Desmond Mason and Gary Payton. Neff also wouldn't specify the salary, but it is a four-year offer. He could accept it as soon as today unless presented with something more attractive. "We're still in the loop, but who knows how it will go," said Sonics general manager Rick Sund. "Bill has been great through this whole process, very professional, and Kevin has to make the decision that's best for him and his future." Read Article
Ollie is a very good backup PG, maybe the best pure backup PG in the league. (not counting guys who could start, Van Exel, B. Jackson). He makes the right play and takes care of the ball. He also is a good defender. He would be the perfect choice to come in and play 25 mins. a game at PG, with Stevie playing some at the 2. Ollie would complement Yao's game perfectly although he is not a great outside shooter.
Thats a lot of bling bling for Ollie reminisent of Moochie's contract. $10 mil for another backup???? If the Rockets did make this offer, I hope they know what the hell they are doing this time. Hell I never even heard of the guy...... But it looks like he gets around: Dallas Orlando Sacramento Orlando Philladelphia New Jersey Philadelphia Chicago Indiana Milwaukee Seattle His career stats arent that pretty either: 4.5 ppg 1.7 reb 2.7 ast Am I missing something?
Yeah that was my bad.... edited it. I think Mooch is getting 20 million over 4 years or something utterly ridiculous like that.
I thought Mark Berman reported last night that the offer was made by a team other than the rockets. A substantial offer that was unlikely to be matched by the Rockets. Berman talked to Ollie's agent, so you can forget about Ollie to the Rockets.
Ollie is so much better than Norris that comparing them is akin to comparing Yao to Jason Collier. Just because guys are similar sizes doesn't mean their game is similar. Also, 2.5 mill a year seams very reasonable when you consider other PG salaries throughout the league.
Ollie's not worth it, I hope that is not the Rockets offer. I wont to win and signing crap players is not going to help.
just that ollie's agent said the rockets were out of the picture because another team is offering more.
what are we winning? The lakers have it locked until Malone retires. Who do you suggest we go after? Brand? I'd rather build around Yao/Francis than add more superstar type players. Yao/SF will be unstoppable in 2-3 years. I like Ollie's game. He fits the JVG school of basketball. Maybe if he signs he can expose Moochie for the scrub that he is. Maybe then Moochie will realize that and start working on his game.
10 Million over 4 years is a contract worth 2.5 million a year which is exactly HALF of the 4.9 MLE. Obviously whoever is going after Ollie wanted to split their MLE so they can get two players. This is exactly what I saw the Rockets possibly doing in possibly trying to get Ollie and Piatkowski.
If that were true, Houston would have a few more titles. I don't see a team with an unmotivated, overweight center; over-the-hill, coattail-riding PF; flirtatious SG; and an aged PG whose defense relies on his stamina and speed going any further than their next playoff opponent. Ollie isn't coming to the Rox next season per Berman's report last night which brings us to Antonio Daniels. There is already a thread on him but this opens the door to get Daniels on board in my opinion. Plus he has shown a strong interest in playing for the Rox. That would be a good pickup for depth at the guard position.
