Those of us that go back to the 90's know the D Mad Max put on Jordan consistently getting into his head allowing us to beat down the Jordan bulls on a consistent basis. I say Mad Max gives Tmac the same fits since Tmac doesn't like to drive and Max's quickness would force Tmac into bad shots all night long. The only person close to Max is Bonzi without the quickness. Plus Mad Max would punk Tmac and Tmac would beg out of the game with a mysterious injury.
T-Mac wouldn't score a point on Vernon Maxwell. Vernon Maxwell held Michael Jordan, the most mentally strong player in NBA history, to 17 points. No way in hell McGrady, one of the weakest, could survive the verbal and physical onslaught.
excellent poll for the occasion my boy don't want to believe that tracy quit on the team against the raptors tracy has a vagina and he let's it show at times inorder for him to go through a sex change he has to dominate in the playoffs
Typical Maxwell pre-game greeting Vernon - "You try to fu**n come in here Ima break your bones and then Ima &%^$*^. Your pu%%y @ss better not try to score. Gimme that ball bi@%$. What you lookin at cross eyed mutha%#$$#" Tracy mcgrady in retro colors... Yao - "Wow! That guy is nuts!" Tmac - "Shouldnt he be in jail?" Tracy Mcgrady in retro colors after Vernon Maxwell introduces himself. Chicken Little - "It's the new shoes."
Lol @ Zboy and the new shoes comment. T-Mac says some pathetic stuff sometimes. Vernon Maxwell would probably hold T-Mac to an average of about 15 sporadic points and would make T-Mac a non-factor in the game.
mad max would light his b**** ass up....we're talkin bout the same man that Jordan respected as a defender, and a guy not afraid of MJ himself.....he would realize tmac's b**** like qualities and exploit them.....Mad Max will always be one of my favorites..........Mad Max > T -wack.
not a yof by far tracy at this point has done nothing (basketball wise) to win me over solid citizen tho
What about the scoring champ Tmac? The dude was a mad scorer with handles and hops. I do agree with the fact that Vmax mental game got into many a players head. I say we start a fund to bring Max back to Houston to punk slap everyone on the Rockets except Steve, Mike James, and Bonzi. The rest of these dudes are light in the A. Max much man love from a key contributor to our 1st championship. I'm still pissed u quit on us when we got the Glyde. We understand your manhood being taken away after plummeling Clyde for many years as a Rocket.
ROFL....that's got to be one of the funniest posts I have read in my short time on here! How come the poll doesn't have a simple he would shut Tmac down choice?
first of all. Max played his best D against Jordan. I love Tmac, I really do. but he's not 25% of what the EARLY 90s Jordan was. Early 90s Jordan was dunking on everyone and destroying everybody. Detroit had to play some punk thug defense to even slow that guy down. Plus Jordan took it to the hole all the time back in the day. Tmac doesn't. Here's a good read. The old school players like Jordan respect people who play hard like Max. Paper: HOUSTON CHRONICLE Date: THU 01/30/1992 Section: Sports Page: 7 Edition: 2 STAR Jordan awaiting challenge/Maxwell expected to continue feud By EDDIE SEFKO Staff Michael Jordan expects more of the same bumping and grinding from Vernon Maxwell tonight. But the Bulls' star also believes he has one distinct advantage over the Rockets' fiery guard. "Vernon is a very competitive guy," Jordan said Wednesday. "He's a physical defender and he's trying to earn respect around the league. "Against Vernon, you've got to get inside his head. I've got to outthink him when he's guarding me. I've got to use my mental knowledge against him." Maxwell has shown in the past two meetings against Jordan and the Bulls that he can challenge Jordan physically. Last season, he stood up to Jordan after an exchange of elbows, an incident that fired up the Rockets for a win at Chicago Stadium. On Saturday, Maxwell was ejected from the Rockets' 114-100 loss to the Bulls at Chicago Stadium after referee Jack Nies called back-to-back fouls against Maxwell while he was guarding Jordan. That Maxwell tries to make a statement when the Rockets play the Bulls is nothing new for Jordan. Every defender greets Jordan with a sense of purpose. But Maxwell is setting a tone for his matchups with Jordan, which come only twice a year because the teams are in opposite conferences. "They've got a history now," Chicago coach Phil Jackson said. "Vernon shoots from the hip. When you've got unbridled competition like that in a young player like Vernon, sometimes he can come apart a little. "Vernon's the type of player who adds a lot to the game. And he takes away some things, too." In other words, you have to take the bad with the good with a player like Maxwell. The Maxwell-Jordan matchup is not a one-way challenge. Jordan said he takes Maxwell seriously. "It's true that I wake up every day expecting that sort of challenge, but it's still a challenge," Jordan said. "When I feel like a guy is trying to take some of the respect away that I've earned in seven or eight years in the league, then that's a challenge." Maxwell, who served a one-game suspension on Tuesday for his actions at Chicago Stadium, said this week he does not want to speak to the media.
It would be hard to bring Max back to Houston since he's in jail with no bond... Incredible basketball player, pretty bad human being. Atleast he saved most of his trouble for after he left the Rox...
Max and Rudy T made up after Maxwell went 'Mad'. He is still loved by his teammates. Max later expressed regret (book : Keeping it Real: A Turbulent Season in the NBA http://www.alibris.com/booksearch?q...att,+Larry&browse=1&cm_re=works*listing*title) he felt bad about it, but it was mainly because of the Rockets not signing him to an extension and that getting Clyde "put the writing on the wall"). Max did root for us and was happy about it. Max still hangs out with his boyz, Sam Cassell, Mario.. I'm glad he found peace with the Rockets (so Vernon Haters should stop now).
This is a straight up awesome article: Paper: HOUSTON CHRONICLE Date: SAT 01/25/1992 Section: Sports Page: 1 Edition: 2 STAR Bulls, Jordan provide test for Rockets By EDDIE SEFKO Staff CHICAGO -- In a way, Vernon Maxwell considers himself a kindred spirit to Michael Jordan. Not that Maxwell perceives his talent on the same level as Jordan's. No way. But Maxwell is one of the few players in the league who has made headlines by going nose-to-nose with the NBA's biggest star and living to tell about it. "That's the way I play, with a lot of bumping and pushing and getting on the other guy," Maxwell said. "That's just me. And that's the way Michael plays, too." The last time the two met, Maxwell and Jordan engaged in a stare-down during the second half as the Rockets were taking control of the game and Maxwell was hounding Jordan defensively. Jordan scored 32 points, but the Rockets earned a rare win at Chicago Stadium. Tonight, the two meet again on the same Chicago Stadium court. The Bulls, 36-5 and 20-2 on their home floor, are easily the best team in the NBA, having followed up their championship season with a blazing start that could make them the NBA's first 70-win team. "They're champions and they're playing like champions," Maxwell said. In that respect, the Rockets will find out tonight if they have regained their spark after an inconsistent six weeks. They have played two positive games, beating Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Clippers. Now comes a tough test. "We're going against the cream of the crop," coach Don Chaney said. "But I think our guys will respond to the challenge. "I know Vernon will." Maxwell has the tough task in tonight's game. Anybody responsible for slowing Jordan has a difficult night ahead of him. But Maxwell has drawn strength from last year's confrontation with Jordan. "We were just throwing elbows, which is fine," Maxwell said. "I don't care about elbows as long as they're below the neck. But I caught one in the face from him and got a little mad. It was in the heat of the moment and I was all wrapped up in the game. "A lot of my home boys in Florida couldn't believe I did it. They told me I'd be blackballed after I did that to him." No such problems occurred. Maxwell remains as athletic as anybody in the league shy of Jordan and Clyde Drexler. He has shown signs in the past week of harnessing his periodic frenzied, out-of-control play when he fires up ill-advised shots. And he'll need all the poise and energy he can muster tonight. "I'll guarantee you Michael Jordan will remember what Vernon did last year," Chaney said. "There's not too many guys who get in Michael's face and challenge him one-on-one. "We all know Vernon. He's one of the most competitive little guys I've ever been around. I think Michael understands he's going to have to work to score. I'm looking forward to that matchup as well as the matchup between the two teams." Of course, the scary side of this scenario is Jordan is so good that if he decides to make Maxwell and the Rockets pay for last season's deeds, he could have one of those outrageous, Jordanesque nights. "If he scores, he scores," Maxwell said. "The only thing I can try to do is slow him down as much as I can. I respect him off the court. But when we're on the court, I can't respect him. When I play against guys like him, it usually helps my game. "Plus, they'll be playing their fourth game in five nights, so maybe they'll be a little tired." The Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons 117-93 Friday night at the Stadium and have had an exhausting week. "I'm glad they're playing Detroit," Maxwell said. "Maybe a little of that Detroit pounding will take its toll when we play them."
Gotta agree. I would love to see the matchup, though, because it would be entertaining as all get out. People that didn't see Max play might look at his stats and not be terribly impressed. Max was the living embodiment of a streaky shooter, if ever there was one (and when he was on, he was lights out), but that doesn't show what he could do defensively when he was faced with a tough opponent, ala Jordan. Vernon raised his game for the challenge. We could use some of that today.
depends ,t-mac tends to play well when the defender try to play physical with him,he has no problem against ron artest or bowen.if t-mac shot is falling the night he plays against mad max,its a no contest.with his length,he can elevate above maxwell.and a 6-foot4 guy will always be a 6foot4 guy.i don't think it would be a no brainer like some people may think.
