I'm a huge T-Mac fan - but wonder, could Jordan (of the '90s) have carried the Rockets past the Mavs in the first round last season had he been our star player rather than T-Mac? The same supporting cast of Yao, Deke, Barry, Sura, Wesley, and James. I personally don't believe he could have. I watched a lot of Bulls games throughout his career and saw how he took over games. I saw T-Mac take over a few of the games, but our supporting cast didn't come through - at the right times, although they did in others. Would Jordan have passed to Bowen at all?

He certainly couldn't have carried the Astros past the Cardinals in the NLCS.

so you got some of that good weed going around right now too, huh?

ill humor you and give you my fresh take romey.

im going to go out on a limb and say that jordan of the 90's (best player ever at the peak of his career) and the current rockets squad (minus t-mac) would have beaten the mavs and won the championship that year and every other year that he played from about 90 to 98.

So you are ridiculing him for starting the thread, but you take your time to answer the question anyways?
I am not saying the thread is stupid, you did.
So if you find the question stupid, don't answer to it.

This is my take: There's not way to say conclusively, because it's an unrealistic situation.

It would be much easier to answer the question: "How does T-Mac compare to Jordan?". If that's what the thread starter wanted to ask, then don't beat around the bush and ask the question you want to ask.

Here's a legitimate way of starting a thread: "If you have a turkey sandwich and you replace the turkey with chicken, will the sandwich taste better?"
I challenge everybody to think thoroughly before answering this question.

lets not hate on carolbmt for their seemingly irrelevant quote. Lets all agree that the offseason is way too long for us to all keep our sanity. Let's all admit, we need our rockets basketball, we are addicts, we need our fix like all other junkies. The first thing we must do is admit our addictions. And these irrelevant posts will make sense to us. Cant you understand, that it is our addiction for rockets basketball, that makes us create random threads, because we are all out of stuff to talk about?<---ithink that was a run on.

I need to stop watching Dr. Phil

The turkey sandwich would not taste the same

I don't think its irrelevant because I just happen to be wondering the same thing during the series. I was thinking that because a lot of people want McGrady to take the leap into Jordan's class, going from a great player to a great winner. A perimeter player who can put an entire franchise on his back. With all the questions of whether he was going to make the leap during the series, the only other recent perimeter player I could think of to do that was Jordan. I guess you could make a case for Kidd, but he did it in a weak East.

he wasn't ridiculing him macfan, seems like it was just a joke. Plus, the thread was started for it to be answered which jo did, unlike some of the previous posters who just lamented the thread.

Also, the sandwich's taste is a function of what you are in the mood for.

Finally, I don't think a dominant Jordan could have helped us beat the Mav's. He couldn't have swung over to defend Nowitzki because of his lack of height. This would have us being ripped at the four with Nowitzki shooting open Jumpers all day long.

He also would have made Yao cry like a baby for the games that he didn't show in and would have insured that Yao jumped ship.

McGrady did everything in his power to vault us to victory in that series. The team came up flat in the final game. I honestly believe that we would have been worse for the wear with Jordan because of said PF problem.

Another tuna fish question would be could T-Mac have won the titals with Jordan's teams?

Without a doubt, yes, Jordan would have carried us. He would have stopped the drought that lost us a couple of games before game 7, and there would have not been the need for a game 7. No disrespect to TMac, that's just the greatness of Jordan.

Question - if the Phil Jackson of the 90s would have been coaching last year's Rockets team, would we have beat the Mavs?

Try this one, who would win in a fight, Mr Miyagi or Steven Seagal? You will never know.

    Irrelevant question? Yes
But the simple answer is "yes, he would have"

he would have shut down Dirk, moved over to Stack when he got hot, and then b**** slapped anyone guarding Terry until he was shut down.

maybe, but probably not if the mavs had bird instead of nowitski but maybe if we had kareem or hakeem instead of yao but maybe not if they had jerry west instead of finley, unless of course we had barkley (early 90's barkley not mid 90's barkley) instead of bowen, but of course the mavs would counter with bill walton instead of shawn bradley, then we might have trouble, but then we could counter with julius erving instead of john barry, and if we could get rick barry instead of job barry, that could turn the tides.

so the answer is no, especially if dallas had bill russell instead of dampier.

Umm... Jordan right now at 41 or whatever and if in shape, and part of the team for 82 games would have been enough to get us past the Mavs. I don't mean replacing Mac with Jordan, simply adding MJ to the team. Never underestimate Mike.

How old was MJ when he won his first title?
    How old is T-Mac?

That having been said, Jordan > T-Mac. In fact, Jordan > basically everyone else that ever played the game.
