Not this season obviously, but somewhere down the line? He would be the first since Oscar Robertson. During the Rockets' recent streak, he has been hitting double-figure rebounds regularly. So ironically, his biggest stumbling block might be assists. Noone's really been close over the past decade. Kidd has had the assists, but not the rebounds (7.2 was his max). Hill and Pippen have both come fairly close with the rebounds (9+) but been pretty far away in terms of assists. And would it be a good thing if he did? Getting a big-time frontcourt rebounder like Webber or the like would likely take some boards away from Francis, but would make us a better team overall. ------------------
If he could get more consistent shooters surrounding him, and learn the fast break a bit more, I would not be surprised to see him average a triple double. Of course, he could do that, but they would put Jason Williams in the all-star game. ------------------ Re-elect President Gore!
Thats a great question, Sam. I think it's amazing that Steve Francis assists numbers are where they are, at times, considering how many possesions Moochie and Mobley control. IMO , I think for Francis to average a triple double our offensive structure would have to change completely. Number one, Moochie would not be given control of the offense when Francis is in the game. Number two, there would have to be more motion implemented into the offense. Maybe having Mobley coming off screens similar to the way larry Brown utilizes Allen Iverson would boost Francis's assist numbers. So unfortunately for the triple double idea, and fortunately for the Rockets we have another one-on-one threat in Cuttino Mobley which is a good thing for the team in itself, but which will ultimately hinder Francis from averaging a triple double. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited March 12, 2001).]
Not to denigrate Steve, but if Magic Johnson could not average a triple double then I don't see Francis ever doing it. ------------------
A guard isn't going to average 10 boards a game in today's NBA... even if they're better than Johnson . I could see him averaging 25pts, 7boards, and 10 assists in the right offense... pretty spectacular. ------------------ Boston College - Big East -East Division Regular Season Champs Worst to First in 2001!
bobrek- apples and oranges. Magic had a MAD supporting cast and usually had 3-4 guys on the court who could have been considered primary options in the Showtime offense. It was an Indy car, and he was the driver- he didn't have to be pit-crew and race-team owner as well. The CBA and salary cap issues have seen to it that a collection of talent at its peak such as the Showtime Lakers will not happen again, so it's entirely conceivable that Franchise could pull a 'Big O' in the seasons to come. ------------------ It takes a lot of brains to enjoy satire, humor and wit- but none to be offended by them.
Not to be funny but I think Francis could have done it if the Bulls would have drafted him. 25pts 10boards 11assist. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
If Cuttino would make more shots Francis assists would go up ,If you notice when Dream plays he takes away a lot of Francis rebounds . ------------------ Oh yes I'm helping with the California Power Crisis , I've turned off more women than Achebe
No one would make shots on the Bulls. He would average 2 assists, and those would be to himself, off the glass. ------------------ Re-elect President Gore!
ZRB beat me to it. If Francis played on a better team, he'd have more assists. He'd also have fewer boards and points. Part of the reason Francis nabs so many is because our front court is, well... somewhat lacking *coughunderstatementcoughcough* at rebounding. ------------------ Boston College - Big East -East Division Regular Season Champs Worst to First in 2001!
Virtually impossible for him to do it the whole year...a month maybe...he's just too small to average 10/game on the boards for the whole year...from 7 to 10/game is a huge huge jump, especially for a point guard...don't think that record will be broken in a long time. Well, I said that about the HR record before big mc shattered it...hope I'm wrong again.. ------------------
Again, not to be funny, but where would he get his assists? ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion
Crawford would get him 4 ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
