It has been reported (http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/sports/164846) that Eddie Jones may be waived by the Grizzlies. He is 35, in the final year of a large contract, and having a miserable year, but this guy was always been a great defender and excellent shooter. He claims he has alot left in the tank. Is he washed up, or could he help the Rockets?
He was a good swing man-6' 5" or maybe 6' 6"-athletic. If he had anything left he could help- he is a good team player-appears very adaptable.
Yes! Veteran leadership + 3pt shooting + perimeter defense + size is a luxury to have at the 2guard. Does he have a ring already? If not lets tempt him. Eddie's like an even more washed up Michael Finley. Still very serviceable.
yeah he would at this moment because Bonzi needs to get back into playing shape as well as Synder. Jones is a good swing man and can hit the long ball, but I would rather we go after another Big body because who knows what condition Yao will be in when he returns and I am afraid that Mutumbo's legs wont lest in couple of playoff series under a lot minutes.
why won't JVG play him? good defender, good shooter, smart verteran player... we need to get rid of Sura, and Padgett when we get a back-up 4/5
We would be better off getting a serviceable PG then PF in that order before thinking of adding another swingman who is way past his prime.
While it would make ample sense clearing out atleast Bob sura's spot and getting rid of Scott Padgett- additions to the team only Matter if JVG changes his rotation philosophy. Adding to our shooting Prowess is a no brainer- if it comes cheap, it fits into JVG's system and the guy actually gets a chance to contribute. Eddie Jones is a good team mate and a veteran. But there a ton of suitors- including lakers and Jazz who would salivate at the prospect of having him on board. Our track record of getting players on the promises of a ring have not panned out too well in the past.
As A follow up- If we can lose scott padgett and sign Melvin Ely and Trade sura for Mo Pete and a second round pick- we should have a solid rotation which will be ready by playoffs!
He's 35 and washed up. No step or hops anymore. That said, I wouldn't mind him on our bench for the minimum. He could give us roughly, if not slightly less than, what Finley is giving the Spurs right now. Evan
I would be all for it but this is not what we need. We need to be talking to the Bobcats about Melvin Ely.
Another knee-jerk "Player X is being waived, can we sign him?" thread. We already have FIVE, count them - FIVE players that play the same position. And none of them are scrubs. Tracy McGrady, Luther Head, Shane Battier, Bonzi Wells, Kirk Snyder. And you want another one just because he happens to be available? What does he have that none of these guys doesn't already give us?
dude. what part of the milky way did you come from? its like asking shaq, if he can dunk the basketball
Why would we add an old, slow SG? I could see us doing that with last season's squad but we already have Tmac, Bonzi and Snyder. We have all the size AND the athleticism to go with it (when healthy, of course). Let's focus on a backup PG or a big guy who can run the floor and actually finish above the rim.
I would even give up Span for Eddie Jones. We need his athleticism. And he is a threat from the rainbow.
