Could Cato do this: 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks

    13 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks = Cato? Nah...more like, 6 points, 10 rebounds, and 1 block.

    13 points, 11 boards, and 6 blocks = Mo Taylor? Nah...more like 10 points, 6
rebounds (remember, Francis out rebounds Mo Taylor), and 0 blocks.

13 points, 11 boards, and 6 blocks = Eddie Griffin? Yeah...but, more like 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks.

    Hmmmm...

I pray that one day our line up will look like this:

    Francis
    Mobley
    Nachbar
    Griffin
    Ming

Every position is packed with tallent!!!! That's power!

I'm with ya except for Mobley. That guy is EXTREMELY overrated. If we have the lineup you suggest then it'll be ok because we're so loaded with talent everywhere else. I'm not saying to get rid of Cuttino. I just don't think he's an optimal starter.

Cato could do that in a preseason game if he was in the last year of a contract. No doubt.

cato wouldn't sniff those numbers against nba all-stars. 4 points, 4 boards, maybe a block is the best i could see him doing.

You forgot to mention the 3 assists and 3 steals(but 5 turnovers also--needs to learn how to protect the ball in the post).:p

Yeah, sometimes Cate gets those numbers...but then he goes into
    a funk for 4 or 5 games.

As far as against all-stars. No way. :(

Give Cato some credit. He usually puts up 13-11 at least twice a season.

But seriously, I think we are going to see Kelvin emerge as an excellent backup to Yao.

Cato's likely stats against an all-star team:
    13 minutes, 2 points, and 6 fouls

But with any luck, he'd be able to snag a few autographs in the locker room.

Why would that be sarcastic. Mobley will never be an All-Star...never be an MVP candidate...never lead the league statistically at his position. It's hard to understand why some on this board act like he's God's gift to the SG position.

Refman, I think some forget, Mobley rose out of the wasteland of the 2nd round and has become a serious ball player, not many kids come out of the 2nd round and become the team's second option, and this year he might drop to 3rd but I dont see him EVER dropping past 3rd option on this team.

    Mobley can be unstopable!

That's right...he's unstoppable. You just can't stop him from exercising poor shot selection and jacking up an ill-advised 3 every other time he gets the ball.

Cat does take some bad shots, but he is a 43.8% shooter, which is pretty guard for a 2 guard, and he shot nearly 40% from behind the arc last season.

His poor shots are generally in the clutch. Also he needs to be less ball hungry when Yao is ready to go. This could easily become a situation of too many egos and not enough rock to go around.

I'm going to bookmark this thread, Refman, so I can remind you of it when Cat makes the all-star team... this year or next. ;)

I think Cat and Steve are going to REALLY benefit from Yao at center. He can see over the rest of the players and find an open man, and if he's left alone he's going to make the other team pay.

I can see a lot of fast-breaks coming from Yao's blocked shots, rebounding, and being able to see the floor. Originally I thought Cat's #'s would go down because of Ming's touches. Now I think Cat's going to get more open looks, score MORE points, and get more media attention because of Ming.

The guards are going to LOVE this guy. Ming will win ROY and Cat will be an All-Star. Book it.

There's a "Ming as Roy?" thread in the NBA Draft section. Make your predictions there, or move it here. I made mine a couple of weeks ago. Now I think I was too conservative. All he needs is a little time. This guy is the real deal. (And I'm excited!)

so he has to be all those things in order to become as you said, "an optimal starter." that's some steep demands for our shooting guard position. mobley will never be considered as an mvp but i am confident he will make 2 or 3 all-star games. he's not god's gift but he is certainly a premier nba scorer. that is a fact.

He does not have to be all those mthings to be a good starter. People around here act like he is the next coming of MJ. He's not. But if you think Mobley is a "premier" NBA anything...just remember that when he throws up enough bricks to finish the new arena.

Cat has been generally hated/underrated on this board ... it's refreshing to see someone coming in saying people act like Cat is the next MJ ...

    Refman,

Actually, I thought that Mobley was a refreshing addition to the team.
It broke that "nice guy" stigma that the Rockets had back in the
80's with the Dream and a bunch of "nice guys." I mean, even
during the 90's when the Rocket won their two titles, the only
player on the team that had guts (cocky) was Mario Ellie. He brought
a tough ("Yeah, I have game," attitude). Mobley brought this same
cockiness; but he backed it up. I mean, he's a 2nd rounder that
has kids all around the USA talking about him. I live in Maryland among
the Terps, Redskins, and Wizards (Francis land) and there are kids
with Mobley jerseys. They guy has guts. Back in 1995 we had "nice
guy" Hakeem and "nice guy" Drexler. We needed a player like Mobley
that could give us that "Mario Ellie" type cockiness. We can't just
have "nice guys" on our team.
