Stupid Chad Ford is saying Cato may be out of the package

I won't mind keeping Cato. But I really don't believe much what Chad Ford says. If what he said is true, CD is lowballing Magic.

    ****************************
Shaun(Orlando): What do you think is the best of the rumored deals for McGrady that actually has a chance in reality?

Chad Ford: (1:12 PM ET ) This is the other part of the puzzle for Orlando. What happens to McGrady. If you take John Weisbrod at his word . . . nothing for now. I still think the Rockets are the heavy favorites, but the word now is that they may wait until July 15 so that Kelvin Cato doesn't have to be part of the deal. Right now Cato's involved because Francis is a base-year player. They need the extra salaries to make things work.

Maybe that's why we haven't heard anything from Cato.

I'm fine with keeping Cato. With Juwan Howard in the fold, Cato can return to his role as supersubcenter, not as a misfit starting power forward. We'd only need to get Fisher or Barry as a starting PG.

Does Cato + Francis for McGrady + Howard + ????? work?

Who would Orlando have to drop?

Could CD have pulled Cato off the table?

Why wouldn't Orlando want him? As much as many here don't like him, he'd be a damn serviceable center in the East...

Why would we have to wait until the 15th? Shouldn't Steve lose his base-year status on June 30th?

There is no player movement allowed by the NBA from July 1-July 14

Why? I have no freakin clue

If Cato isn't in it, I don't see how Howard could be. Cat doesn't make enough.

If Steve is no longer a base-year player on June 30th, then couldn't we trade him on the 30th, before the July moritorium starts on the 1st?

First of all, this is from Chad Ford, so don't take it seriously. But here is what I calculated.

Salary wise, it needs some work. A possible trade would be SF+Cat+Pike for Tmac+Howard. Another possible trade would be SF+Cat for Tmac+Gooden.

If either trade goes down, it means Weisbroad is a real idiot.

Steve loses the BYC, if my understanding is correct, on 7/1 at 12:01 am ... not 6/30/2004.

Steve loses byc on 7/1 but according to the league, there can be no transactions between 7/1-7/14 (moratorium)

This was discussed before and it says 365 (or 364, i forget) days after July 1st the player will lose his BYC status. Since this was a leap year, it came a day early, June 30th.

Anyone remember where this discussion was? aelliot?

I didn't know calling Chad Ford stupid is not allowed. Mod changed my thread title line. No big deal.
