Could Ariza soon become our version of Caron Butler?

I was thinking the other day about Ariza's skill set and Butler's as well. Butler of course started his career a little more towted than Ariza, being a lottery pick for the Heat and all but he was a well rounded player that needed some polishing to his game. Ariza has shown that he can improve and has tons more to develop.

It seemed as if Butler got lost in the shuffle with him being traded to the Lakers not really getting any support besides Kobe wanting him, then again traded to the Wizards for Kwame 'the bust' Brown. Same with Ariza, no one really knew how good he could be/become, but with the Rockets seeing that Trevor does have skill set and he is still a very young player learning to play the game, they got a steal for bargain price.

They both have near MLE contracts and have/had potential of becoming major contributors for a relatively cheap price.

Also, does anyone here think Budinger could have been the deciding factor to the game last night, had he played? I think he would have made a huge difference.

    Thoughts...

Ariza doesn not have the same ball handling ability or moves, so i doubt it. He seems to lack fluidity in his movement. He basically has tmac's physique and not many out there have the fluidity tmac has at his height to do things on the perimeter.

i should add i still think he's closer to Rashard lewis as far as potential goes, but even Lewis handles the ball better.

No. Ariza has nothing in common with any of these ball handling wings.

These guys are dead on about his lack of ball handling. If Ariza can improve in that area and continue to grow offensively, I think it's a good comparison.

He can't dribble and is extremely weak. People are always saying this player or that player needs to hit the weight room but Ariza needs some serious work on his core strength. Even rookie McGrady and guys like Durant and Granger play much stronger than Ariza, at 24 years old, does. It's not just that he is skinny either because plenty of skinny guys are actually quite strong in functional basketball strength. Ariza is not.

hopefully Wayne Ha- i mean Falsone, can get his hands on him and bulk him up from head to toe evenly, nothing drastic needed.

That's the thing, I wasn't comparing each others game, I was comparing value for what was invested.

Everyone knows his handles are horrible and his strenght needs to be built but what I'm saying is we got Ariza for a good price as Washington received Butler for a bargain, therefore our version.

Could that be what Trevor becomes for us?

Trevor was supposed to replace Shane. The Rockets didn't bring him here because they expected him to be the man.

Yeah, I don't think it's his physique, as much as it is his technique. To me, it looks like he dribbles too "tall". He needs to keep his dribble and his center of gravity lower.

I agree. I think that all this "Trevor is our go to guy" talk is mainly a "let's see what this kid can do right now" type of deal. He wasn't brought in here to be our franchise player but to be a complement to those type of players. Like on a good team, what Caron Butler would be.

I also agree, Caron Butler is not the man in Washington either so I don't see how that applies. Yes he is supposed to be in the same mold as Shane but Caron is not the man for the Wizards, Arenas is.

I consider Ariza to be more of a versatile foward than a ball handling guard. He's really out of his element with Adleman starting him at the 2. I guess somewhere Rick is thinking "what do you want from me, it was either him or Shane!"
