I have been watching this "coaching search" go down and I am certain that Maggard and UH has no clue what they are doing.

Pardee is freaking 71 years old and has not coached since the mid 90's.

Do ya'll remember when he coached the Oilers? He had no control of that team and he used to speak into a head set that was unplugged, wtf?

He is the "front runner" because the over the hill out of touch AD want's to run the show.

No fans, no stadium, no money, no clue that's why Briles wanted out.

UH took one step forward under Briles they are about to take two steps back

Matt Jackson was on 610 this morning and was saying that Maggard isn't offering a whole lot of money (may or may not be his choice) and that Maggard also wants to hire the entire coaching staff!!

I'm not a Cougar but man would I be pissed if my AD was pulling this crap.

    Okay, yeah.. UH sports suck.

But, believe it or not, underneath the sporting image, there's actually an education system.

yea, we all know that a great education is directly correlated to the school's sports teams' achievements!

texanskan, I find it very amusing that you think they know more about hiring a head coach at the D1 level then the AD. This is the same AD who hired Briles, who took the UH football team to 4 bowl games in 5 years.

This is same AD who hired Penders, who's Cougars are currently 9-1. In his first 3 seasons at UH he has won 18, 21 and 18. Prior to his arrival they had won 15 games in the previous TWO seasons.

So I am going to go out on a limb and say he knows a little more about the situation than us. Based on the information I have, would Pardee or Haywood be my top two? No way. But what information do I have? He is the one that has interviewed each candidate and their respective coaching staffs multiple times.

the summit, are you saying the gm or ad always knows best? When most fans said the Jennings trade was bad who was right the fans or Purpura? When Casserly traded picks for Babin and Buchanon and fans raised their eyebrows who was right?

I like the Penders hire but they have still not made it back to the NCAA's and as far as Briles goes they were two seasons removed from 0-11 there is only one way to go and that is up.

UH plays in a **** CUSA and Houston is the most recruited city in the country so I would not call one CUSA title world beating

Bingo. I think the point is that unlike someone like a Charley Casserly, Maggard has not proven himself to be incompetent. So while the hire seems fishy, there is no reason to believe that Maggard is making a dumb, uninformed decision. He has thus far made good choices and earned a little bit of leash.

I do not like the potential hire personally, but like mentioned above, I haven't interviewed his coaching staff, I don't know the money he has to offer, etc.

Purpura had made zero moves until he pulled the trigger on Jennings, if it looks like a rat and smells like a rat it must be a rat

EXACTLY. I couldn't have said it any better. And no, of course I am not saying that AD's or GM's are perfect, far from it actually. But they sure as hell know a lot more about it than us.

And as far as C-USA being a crap D-1 conference, it is. But are you part of the solution? Your profile says you are a UH alum. Do you go to the games, donate and try to help out the program in any way that you can? If you don't do any of those things than you are part of the problem (just like many other UH alums in Houston), which doesn't give you much room to complain.

If you do support UH than complain away about the conference, the team, etc.

I do go to games (football, basketball and baseball) and I don't have extra money right now to give but I am a member of Cougar Pride and pay a small fee as a younger alum.

I talk to John O' Quinn (the guy who's name is on the Rob) multiple times a year about fundraising/endzone facility/moving to Reliant etc. etc.

When I finished high school and went up to UT the program was nowhere close to what it is now but seeing how a real athletic program runs first hand as opposed to the UH program it's night and day

Give UH the kind of money that UT gets from the state and I bet you it would resemble a "real athletic program".

it's a free market and what pisses me off is that my UH tution went up in part due to the athletic budget being larger than the money on hand.

UH has terrible marketing people and many, many incopotent people employed there. The attitude is "tu, aggy, baylor ann richards, texas tech, austin, rick perry are all out to get us" excuses take the place of idea's this I know to be first hand knowledge.

This hire of Pardee is horrible, I'm sure hornfans.com is finding the stories on chron.com pretty funny along with Maggards quotes.

While a few people do act like that, you making it seem that the entire school thinks that way is ridiculous. I to have first hand knowledge, having worked for the athletic department for a year and half as a student assistant, and I rarely recall hearing anything like that as an excuse. But to compare UT's athletic program to UH's is completely asinine given the differences in the budgets. And by the way, unless you know something I don't, Pardee hasn't been hired yet.

So you refer to your own school as "Cougar High" and proceed to whine about some guy who may or may not even be hired. ******* this Houston inferiority complex pisses me off.
