Anyone been to Costa Rica or have heard good things about it?

I am looking for a good spot for holiday - I will be flying into Houston for approx a week or so then have about a week and a half thereafter before having to head back for work.

If not Costa Rica are there any other recommendations for places with similar distance from Houston?

    Thanks

Heh - we're heading down to Playa Del Carmen in about oh....30 minutes - so that's what I would recommend. Great beaches, european women, good snorkeling spots...and great value.

Went to Playa Del Carmen two years ago...very touristy but an awesome place to hang out by the beach. True about the European women at the beaches. I let my wife and sister-n-law pick us a spot to sit at and they chose the perfect spot. Five minutes later, about five extremely hot women sat in the chairs in front of us and decided to go topless. My brother and I gave each other a high five. And our wives not knowing this before they chose the seat, told us that we better enjoy this moment. We did.

I just got back from a surfing trip north of Puerto Vallarta. Learned to surf and now I want to make a trip to Costa Rica. Im interested to hear about the info given here.

But I will always tell everyone to make a trip to Brazil. :D

HUGE thumbs up to a vacation in Costa Rica.

My wife and I went there for 7 days a couple years ago, and it was one of the best vacations of my life. I felt like we could have easily spent another 2 weeks there and not run out of things to do.

There are a number of surf spots there. There are surf package trips, and surf camps there. I know that one of them is run by Corky Carroll.

Check this out. They also have plenty of things to do at Corky Carroll's if only some of the group wants to surf, and the others don't. There is snorkeling, Canopy tours, massages, etc.

The price on his package deals includes airfare, 3 meals a day, surf lessons, plenty of time for free surf, lodging, etc.

I went to Costa Rico last summer for my brother's wedding,it was amazing! It is also very inexpensive, I was there for around 3 weeks. We visited San Jose, Haco, Los Suenos, Playa Hermosa, Fortuna, CoCo. I definetly recommend that when you fly into San Jose you change some U.S money into Colones right away. People tend to try and rip you off if you use american fare. Let me know if you have any questions.

There is a really cool island about 100 miles off the Pacific coast. Excellent for wildlife photography. Isla Nublar, I think it's called.
