I've researched this a little bit, but I was hoping maybe someone has had an experience here.

I'm looking for a corporate housing or fully furnished (w/kitchen) short-term situation, preferably in north Houston (Spring area), that I could be in at no longer than a month-to-month period ... preferably even week-to-week. I want to find a good place for likely atleast a month, and no more than 2 or 3.

Most of the places I see range from $900 to $2000 a month. I'm always looking to save a buck, but not willing to sacrifice it being a decent place. My family will be staying there and we will be looking for a house, so I don't want to be so dying to get out of there that we possibly make a bad decision.

    Anyone had any experience here?

Not with a short-term housing system. If I were moving however, my choice would be to put my furniture in storage, such as a Pod, and go to an extended stay hotel. Typically, they can be had for $30 a night, which equals roughly $900/mo. The Pod can be done for $50. The added bonus is that you can narrow your stay to a day by day basis, plus you have a kitchen, as well as maid service.

    Just my two cents

    Clutch,

We know of some great places since the wife has dealt with a ton of relo clients. As soon as she gets home, Ill have her email you the info (I know there is definitely one around the Willowbrook area).

Sorry to get back late on this .... thanks codell ... that would be a huge help.

Fatty -- are extended stay suites that cheap? I had a fairly nice hotel room for $30 a day (before hotel taxes) while I was in Houston, but that was through Priceline (which is why it was so cheap) and wasn't extended stay. The hotel was nice and had a breakfast buffet and free internet, so the cheaper side of me thought about trying to just hook up a couple months on Priceline. I'm not sure that is the best solution, but I would certainly be interested in extended stay suites like that if they were decent.

How many pods would it take to hold a houseful of furniture? (Answer tomorrow)

You can probably get a room at a Residence Inn or Homewood Suites for around $85 a night, maybe less. Give them a call....they have breakfast and evening happy hours and are very nice...definately upscale

If not, check out Candlewood Suites, which are the next tier down in terms of hotel quality, but definately acceptable and better than say a budget place. Again, free breakfast, etc. usually. This should run around $50 a night or so with a long term rate.

Hmmm. Prices have gone up a tad.

    http://www.homesteadhotels.com/mini...ode=&companycode=&usercode=&destpage=minisite

I found this link a minute ago. It's a homestead suite in Spring. Without a discount or promotion, it is $40 a night. I worked at a hotel in college. If you call their reservation desk, and explain that you could be there for 1-3 months, they'll definitely go down on that price, especially if you tell them you're shopping around for prices. a one month committment should get you in the $30-35 range.

But even at $40, you're still getting a suite. If you need a two bedroom, it could cost a little more, but typically a suite has a bedroom and a living room with a hideaway. With a rollout bed, you can sleep 5 easy.

Now, $40 + tax at 13% = $45.20 a night. So the most expensive it would be, without any discount, is $1350 a month. So $900-$1400/mo is the cost of it.

Quality Suites, plus you will have a pool and maybe jacuzzi.
Mine had a full kitchen; refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave.
Along with a King size bed in the bed room, and a Queen Pull out couch in the living room.
Only bad thing is the tv inputs were on lock down so hooking up the ol Xbox was a tad bit tricky.

Thanks for the heads up and suggestions guys ... I did call that place Fatty and the best 30-day quote they would give me is $42/day... they say the daily rate is $69 and weekly $48. Still not bad, though they don't have any rooms that aren't "studio" -- meaning no separate bedroom.

I called both the Residence Inn and Homewood Suites (thanks Dream Sequence) near Willowbrook, and both sound great -- perfect type situations. Expensive though. The best rate they could give me over the phone was $115/day for a 2-bedroom and $79/day for a 1-bedroom -- those are monthly rates. I asked if there was anything I could do (AAA, etc.) to get a discount, and they said there wasn't, but then she lowered the one-bedroom to $75 (at Residence Inn). I think around $60/day there I'd just go for it, but I wish there was some Priceline-type "in" to get a great rate. Given I could be there a while, I want to get it low.

I mean I don't know how many times I have called a place directly and gotten their "best rate quote" or "internet discount quote" and it's 2-3 times what I would later get the room for (at the same hotel) on Priceline.
