And no, not Erik Estrada on their shoulders. The ones you get when you're forced to work Reliant Stadium looking for scalpers. So, my buddy ends up having two extra tickets to the game. He's already paid for them and he wasn't really worried about wasting the money on the tickets, but if he found someone to take them off his hands, a little extra cash is always cool. We start walking by the South gates, just to see if we hear anyone asking for tickets. Finally, this guy asks us if we have extra tickets and my friends shows him his and tells him he can have both for $40, the face of one of them. The guy next to the potential buyer asks my friend how much, and the original guy immediately walks off. My friend repeats the info, two for $40. The guy pulls out a little black notebook and asks for my friend's license. My friend asks why and the guy pulls his badge halfway out from under his sweater and tells him he's a cop and reselling tickets on the grounds is against the law. We both plead ignorance because we honestly both believed that you couldn't charge more than face and since my friend was offering them well under face, then nothing's illegal. He tells us no, it's illegal just to resell them, so my friend asks again, with no disrespect at all, just because we were both so surprised. This is when his partner jumps in and asks if I'm his friend. At first we ignore not knowing if I'm going to get in trouble as well, but the second time she asked, I say yes. She then tells me, rather rudely, to go check the big list of prohibited things at Reliant and to carefully read #2, which said that reselling of tickets is prohibited on the premises. I tell her I'm not going to go read the sign, that we believe them, we just didn't know in the first place. We apologized for attempting to do something that's apparently illegal, but we obviously weren't trying to do anything malicious, just making a little cash back on the tickets. So, the guy writes my friend's info down in his book, tells him he's not going to write him a ticket and that he only needed his info for his stadium report. We start to walk off, but my friend expresses concern to me that he just gave out his info to someone who didn't write him an official warning, someone whose badge we didn't fully see, possibly someone who could easily use the info for other purposes. My friend turns around and asks for the guy's info. Very sarcastically, the cop says, "what, like a card or something?" To which, my friend responded, yeah, that'd be great. The cop then whips out his ticket book and says, if you want my info, I'm going to write it down on this ticket for you. My friend tries explaining why he wanted the guy's info, but the cop simply responded that if my friend didn't give him his license, he was going to arrest him right there. Of course, my friend complied. Now he has a ticket for peddling without a license. Utter bull****.
So you were offering them at half price....and you get this grief? Crazy. Not like you were an active scalper here. I'd write the Texan's pr department. Nothing will come of it...but absolutely crazy all the same.
That's not a bad idea, bnb. He's a season ticket holder with four seats, maybe they'll give him something for his troubles, especially when he's going to have to take off work to deal with this in court now, since he's certainly going to fight it.
I got $100 worth of movie tickets after I wrote in to the Movie theatre and how I was mistreated. So, Go ahead and give em a piece of your mind, and exaggerate a little. Beware the power of the PEN
Rocketman95, You my man, were a victim of racist cops. Those cops just don't like white folks. I don't know why.
I don't know about that. The Texans are good about that kind of thing from what I hear. Too bad they don't have a "Tim" like the Rockets do.
Hope he does get something out of it. A season ticket holder...approached by someone asking for tickets (entrapped???)...offers them at half price (doing a potential Texans fan a favor)....and...BUSTED. -- And for the gall to ask the officers name... I guess all the major crimes have been solved. (Actually - this line rarely works when trying to avoid a ticket). Good luck RM95. Grab 'em by the horns.
I'm waiting for you know who to come in here and tell you that your friend deserved what he got and proclaim his support for our men in uniform. It's only a matter of time. My brother got busted a few years ago at the Texaco Grand Prix. My dad had bought 4 tix for the bleachers, but a business associate he was expecting didn't make it from Mexico and my dad had no interest in CART racing. He told my brother to get whatever he could for the 2 extra tickets, to just get some money back. Well my brother ended up trading them for some cash and 2 other tickets in an attempt to make more cash. Then, I don't remember if he approached her or the other way around, an undercover cop and her partner busted him. He got off. Still, we had to get a lawyer and the time wasted in court. They should go after the scalpers and the ticket companies that seem to have first crack on tickets and buy them in bulk, not schlubs trying to get some of their cash back.
Damn, RM95, you don't have much luck with cops, do you? Seriously, I don't blame you and your friend being pissed. Hopefully, the Texans can do something about it.
Hey Rocketman95, are you the one who mouthed off to a cop last year (for something like jaywalking) and ended up in jail?
The cops made my day crappy as well. I was going back up to Austin today and got pulled over for going 80 in a 70 on highway 71. oh well, 105 dollars lighter, and probably another 50 (since you can pay this additional amount to have the ticket dismissed) cops suck when it comes to traffic violations. There are people way faster than me.
Damn that sucks. I was doing 90 on Texas 6 to College Station right in front of a cop. Luckily he didn't come after me.
Yup that was me. The one and only time I've ever been disrespectful to a police officer, even though these two deserved some back talk yesterday. Luckily, we wanted to see the game though.
Same thing happened to my brother back in around '85. I think the Oilers were playing the Giants. We had an extra ticket because someone backed out. They took him to some room and gave him a ticket, we were just trying to make at least half of our money back.
Farging Iceholes. If I were in RM95s shoes, I probably would have spouted off "do you realize how many houses in this neighborhood are being burglarized while you patrol for ticket scalpers?" and been hauled off to the hoosegow.
