You guys wanna talk about how crappy some of our fellow "fans" are? Listen to this!

I sit in Section 124 - Row 21. We were cheering our asses off- as were most people around us. People were high-fiving each other after every Rockets basket. One row up, and a few seats to the right, there was a group of three guys standing & cheering.

STANDING & CHEERING. Not cussing. Not throwing things. Not getting naked.

Well, three "older" people sitting behind them kept yelling at them to sit down. THESE PEOPLE WERE WEARING ROCKETS SHIRTS TOO! The three guys refused to sit down - good for them - AND THE PIECE OF CRAP FANS BEHIND THEM CALLED SECURITY DOWN!

The cop even yelled at them, told them to sit down, and told them "one more time and you guys are out of here."

    WHAT THE F---????????????

Is this the kind of atmosphere the Rockets & the Toyota Center want? Security/HPD threatening fans who - God forbid - decide to STAND and cheer for their team?

In the words of Mr. Slave - "Jethuth Chritht!"

Well it pissed us off too, coma.

My brother went off on the "cop callers" asking them what the frak they were doing at the game if they were gonna get pissed at people standing.

One of the two older guys started yelling at us to "get out of his face." Man...

Quite honestly & sadly, I don't think this is rare. I've alread heard/read about others being told to sit when standing & cheering. Same thing happened to us during the Lakers series last year.

Frankly, the Rockets & the Toyota Center are to blame for this. Id they respond to people complaining about other fans standing by unleashing security on them, then f them.

How can you ask us to cheer & dress up & go nuts, then threaten to kick us out when the country club fans complain to you?

aw man, that's so stupid. I had some friends that were asked to leave their seats this season, but in all fairness, they were cursing, so I dogged my friend for that.

This situation is unacceptable. Come support your team!!! but don't be loud and don't stand up...get out of here. that's horrible :(

If it was seriously as innocent as you said it was, then it is the TC's fault for responding to that.

Nowhere on the tickets does it say that you can be asked to leave for standing... if they had actually kicked these guys out, they would totally be opening themselves up to a huge spat.

In that situation, the Rockets or TC should ask the old people if they would like to move to a worse seat (they can always find some which their employees hold), and if they say no, the Rockets just say, "sorry."

You should voice your complaint to the Rockets, as should the guys that were asked to sit down. Just call the main line 713-758-7200.

I perfer to do the up and down (although the down is on the edge of the seat)

maybe they should dedicate a section or two in the bowl to rowty fans only (the Texans did it and it works great) !

Max/codell I was literally 3 feet away from all parties involved - I can give you guys seat numbers if you like.
I did not leave my seat at all during the first half - when this occurred. I saw both groups filter in before the game.

If the gripe had been based on yelling it probably would have been ME being threatened, as I was screaming all sorts of crazy things at the refs (I think my vocal cords are bleeding today).

The guys who were standing simply turned to the people behind them and said "NO!" when they were asked to sit. That's it. They didn't cuss - they didn't threaten the people behind them. Hell, they IGNORED them!

And to highlight how non-assish the three standers were being - the people with the baby sitting by them did ask one of the three to lay off the drumming for a bit as he was banging away on his little souvenir drum. As ghey as that was (wtf bring a baby to a game if you're gonna worry about noise) the guy immediately stopped.

Oh, and I've seen "security and police" threaten people over the most quirky/benign/insane things - so the fact that an off-duty HPD officer working security at the TC yelled at a group of guys to sit down after a group of elderly folk started complaining doesn't surprise me.

Another point - who knows what the complainers actually told the security staff. For all I know they vould have told security that these guys were sodomizing Clutch the Bear. I do know that the very large, angry HPD man (do they not have physical fitness standards?) did not bother asking the guys what was going on.

He came, he yelled, he gave them a mean ass look, and he left.

that's lame....unless there are rules against standing up and cheering, they shouldn't be able to do anything. It has to be a hollow threat by security. I wouldn't sit down because you're not doing anything wrong.

Make noise. Make all the noise you can, stand up. If others can't see, then they can stand up too. That's the way it works. If they yell at you to sit down, invite them to join you in standing up. Don't get mad though. If security asks you to sit down, ask them why. Refuse. If they kick you out, call the papers and tell them what happened.

If no one accepts this, they can not enforce it. But you have a right to cheer. If others don't want to, and just want to sit and enjoy the game - they can go to their living room and turn on the TV set.

Don't let stupid people control what you do.

I was really tempted to get a half-season pass, but this story just made me change my mind. And I believe you Rocket G - I've seen enough similar type activity in the TC at the games this year,

I must be a part of the problem.

    Sit down at the games...
Stand up and cheer for a great play...
Stand up and go crazy in the final minutes..

But standing up in the middle of the game would be annoying to me and im a wild 21 year old kid...

I would have asked the guys to sit down if they were blocking my view. If they didnt comply than I would have called security...

That kind of routine might be okay for regular season games, but all bets are off in the playoffs.

I would say standing after every made basket by the rockets is not out of the realm of crazy... frankly, it should be expected.

Also, standing every time the opposing team calls a timeout because of your play is a MANDATE... I saw the fans hesitant on that first Dallas timeout (but a lot of them did end up standing).

Is it against the rules to stand the entire time? They were standing for most of the time before they got yelled at.

This is what I'm talking about! Dude!

Why are you going to the game then? Why not sit at home so you don't even have to deal with someone "blocking your view."

Maybe the guys are just rabid fans who can't sit because they're too nervous. God knows I was jumping around, fidgeting, giving myself an ulcer.

Is it bad to want to look out across the stands & see people standing rather than sitting on their asses - even for the entire time! It's the freaking playoffs!

In NY or Boston you would probably get gangraped in the stands for telling someone to sit down.

If they were the only three standing in the entire TC arena, then yes that might be a bit excessive. I guess they could just be confused and thought they were at an Aggie football game.

Now from my memory of the playoffs in the 90's, we did go up and down quite a bit, but I only stood for any length of time if the people in front of me didn't sit down. Of course the whole arena stood alot, but that was back before the long time Rocket fans got priced out of The Summit.

Hard to overly condemn either side, but security definitely was at fault. At least there should have been some sort of adult discussion with both parties to work something out. I guess if the guys hadn't sat down security might have shot first and ask questions later.
