    Cops: NBA players' robberies linked
Home invasion suspects are gang members, police say

Four alleged gang members in pursuit of "monetary gain" have been charged in the armed robbery of NBA star Antoine Walker, and two of them also were charged in the robbery of former Bull Eddy Curry, police said Friday.

The four are members of the Traveling Vice Lords, Chicago Police Cmdr. Thomas Byrne said at a news conference. All four were charged with home invasion, armed robbery and aggravated kidnapping.

Walker and Curry, Chicago natives, had no affiliation with the men or their gang, Byrne said, and there was no evidence of a broader plot to target other professional basketball players.

Police found the men through a fingerprint, footage from surveillance cameras, cell phone records and a woman who was discovered with Walker's jewelry.

Another person whom they did not identify was involved in the robbery of Curry's house in suburban Burr Ridge, police said.

And someone else may have orchestrated the crimes, Byrne said.

"We're looking at other leads," Byrne said. "There might be someone higher involved."

Walker, a forward for the Miami Heat, was robbed July 9 in his River North home, which he no longer occupies. Curry, a former Bull who was traded before the 2005-06 season to the New York Knicks, was targeted several weeks later.

In both incidents, masked intruders bound the NBA players with duct tape and stole money and jewelry. Walker also was robbed of a black Mercedes, which police later found stripped of its wheels and stereo on the West Side of Chicago.

Charged in the Walker case were Phillip Allison, 28, of the 4200 block of Van Buren Street; Antoine Larkins, 28, of the 1300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue; Demorris Hill, 25, of the 1700 block of North Luna Avenue; and Gregory Reedfields, 23, of the 3100 block of West Roosevelt Road, Byrne said.

Larkins and Hill also were charged in the Curry case, said Burr Ridge Police Chief Herbert Timm.

Jamie Ellis, the woman found with some of Walker's jewelry during a traffic stop, proved helpful in the police search because she knew the four men, Byrne said. Ellis was charged with felony possession of stolen goods.

Allison has a burglary conviction, and Hill has several convictions for robbery, police said.

Didn't know where else to post this. But here is another incident of a NBA player being robbed, Shelden Williams. You can start a new thread off of this if you want to.

    Hawks' Shelden Williams carjacked

ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta forward Shelden Williams was carjacked at gunpoint Saturday before the Hawks' game against Charlotte.

Douglasville City Police said two suspects were arrested late Saturday afternoon at Arbor Place Mall in Douglas County, near Atlanta. The suspects were in Williams' car and were attempting a robbery, according to an officer who answered the phone at the Douglasville Police Department.

The officer, who declined to give her name, said one suspect was taken to a hospital after suffering dog bites from the police canine unit during the arrest.

Hawks spokesman Arthur Triche says Williams provided police with the license plate number of the vehicle used by the carjackers, leading to a search that led to two suspects being arrested at a mall in Douglas County. Williams' car was found at the scene.

"I'm just glad that he's safe," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said.

"Cars and things like that, jewelry, money, all that can be replaced."

Triche said the car was damaged when found.

Williams entered Saturday night's game against the Charlotte Bobcats as a reserve in the first period.

Williams told Woodson and other team officials about the incident when he reported for the game. He said the car was stolen outside a barber shop.

Williams declined comment to The Associated Press.

Fulton County Police spokesman Gary Syblis said Williams was driving a 2008 Chrysler.

Syblis said Williams, a second-year player from Duke, did not identify himself as a player for the Hawks.

Syblis says the incident occured outside a barber shop on Cascade Road.

The incident is only the latest in a series of attacks on professional athletes. Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor was shot and killed at his home in what is believed to have been a botched burglary.

Earlier this month, Indiana Pacers guard Jamaal Tinsley and his entourage were shot at in a parking lot outside a five-star hotel in Indianapolis.
