In light of the cop buying shoes for the "homeless" man..here's another cop doing a good deed. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/texas-cop-hands-ticket-100-bill-153011204.html Normally, being stopped by a police officer is not good news. But this traffic stop was not exactly typical. When Hayden Carlo was pulled over by a Plano, Texas, cop for driving a car with an expired registration, he told the officer the truth. "I said there's no explanation for why I haven't done it, except I don't have the money. It was either feed my kids or get this registration done," the 25-year-old told CBS News. The cop handed Carlo a ticket, along with something extra, "I opened it up and there's a $100 bill," said Carlo. "I broke down in my car, what else could I do?" He could, and did, update his and his wife's car registrations. Carlo's grandfather, Billy McIntire, then wrote a letter to the Police Department to commend the good-hearted cop. McIntire told CBS, "I get emotional when we talk about this type of thing. You just don't find that many officers who would do this type of thing." Or anyone who would, for that matter. Recently, images of an NYPD officer buying boots for a barefoot man spread on the Web along with praise for the officer's warm gesture. But the mystery cop in Plano chooses not to be identified. Still, the department plans to honor him anyway. A Police Department spokesman, David Tilley, told CBS, "As he told me, this man needed it more than him, and it was the right thing to do." "He helped me out when I needed it. I appreciate that, I'll never forget that man," Carlo said. "It definitely restored my faith in God."
Man, cops are constantly surprising me. Maybe, just maybe, they are good people too... I'm starting to get to a point where I believe that...
Cops are human too, there are good and there are bad. We shouldn't let the actions of a few taint the work of many.
That's the problem with cops deciding what happens when someone breaks the law. It's all arbitrary. Random chaos. And bad actions will also taint the few when they're supposed to be held to a much, much higher standard.
But wouldn't he have to use the 100 dollars just to pay for the ticket... tickets are usually more than 100 dollars anyway, for example speeding would be 160.
On cases like these you usually just get the stickers, provide the information to the court and it gets dismissed. I believe this is how it works. I got a ticket a while back for not having my insurance on me at the time, but sent in a copy to the court and it was dismissed.
He could pay the registration and possibly work out a payment plan with the court due to his circumstances.
Most Courts are very lenient with Stickers. If you get them 10 of the ticket they usually dismiss the case.
He can afford to drive a car and pay gas but not registration? Why not just use public transit and cut a lot of costs? All that being said it was a good deed.
A better solution would be to have frogs decide what happens when someone breaks the law. That way we can take out the human element.
If Plano is anything like Houston then that isn't always (and most likely not) an option. Public transportation is okay if you live and/or work inside the Loop but beyond that it's a no go.
Good one. Having rules and guidelines to follow, uniformity, that's crazy I guess. At least a frog wont let someone off because they have nice cleavage.
Is there public transit where he works or lives? How far is the bus stop or train station from where his final destination is? People always like to say this... but as someone at an early age had to depend on the bus system, it is not a very good way to get around.
Saw the title and thought the story was about a cop sticking his d*** in a person's face after giving them a ticket. Kinda disappointed.
its Plano..not exactly the best place for public transit. Plano is to Dallas like Katy or Sugarland is to Houston - probably even a little farther out than Sugarland.
