The award has to go to the first fight scene in Brotherhood of the Wolf where the American Indian is fighting with the stick. Runner-ups: Matrix lobby scene, Gladiator's final battle, Rob Roy's final showdon.
Off the top of my head, The Matrix lobby scene would be my vote. The chase scene in The French Connection would be up there as well-one that was rivaled in The Bourne Identity.
Die Hard -- he gets trapped under the conference table with the guy above him and has to shoot up through the table... Die Hard 2 -- his gun on moving runway...he's trapped underneath something...bad guy's gun gets jammed...mclane uses pipe to push button making runway move toward him...bad guy sees it and starts to run towards him...gun reaches mclane before bad guy gets there and good guy wins!
I have always felt that the cave troll scene in the mine of Moria during Fellowship of the Ring was one hell of a badass fight scene. I look forward to the huge battle in The Two Towers rivaling it, though.
The scene in Mission Impossible when the helicopter is going through the tunnel with the train The final fight scene in Attack of the Clones when Yoda opens the super jumbo size can of whoop ass The opening scene in Gladiator (big battle scene) Pretty much any scene in Terminator 2
The opening of Lone Wolf McQuaid. I thought the subway square off with the Sentinel in Matrix was better than the lobby scene. The guys coming out of the bank in Resevoir Dogs. Luke Skywalker and Vader squaring up in Empire Strikes Back. Yoda spinning around just looked silly.
I think they all come from Jakcie Chan Movies. For one thing they are as real as it gets in movies, in terms of what's actually being done, and not special effects. I guess to me that gives it a higher degree of difficulty. Also the creative things and use of props in his scenes are on a different level. 1. Super Cop - When Michelle Yeoh(also from Crouching Tiger...) does the motorcycle jump onto the top of the train. 2.Project A-II, when Jackie falls down the bamboo scaffolding 3.Rumble in the Bronx - The chase scene where Jackie jumps from the parking garage across the street and lands on the fire escape thing. 4. Super Cop - Jackie hanging from the helicopter. 5. Project A - The scene where Jackie falls from Clock.
The fight in the supermarket was awesome in Rumble in the Bronx, when he goes in and out of the grocery cart. Unreal.
Yeah, I think that is pretty much recognized as the best chase scene, although French Connection gets more pub.
This has to go to one of the most important action movies ever - the first big John Woo film A Better Tomorrow. Our here, Chow Yun Fat, is about to bust in a spa or something with a whole bunch of mob heavies. The hallway leading to the bath has all these potted plants. Fat puts handguns in all these pots so he can bust in, shoot some dudes, then run out grabbing more guns as he goes so he doesn't have to waste time reloading. It was my introduction to Woo's famed slo-mo double-gun action scene. PS - A close second would be in The Last of the Mohicans. Take your pick of either the scene where the Mohawks attack as the British/colonials are leaving the fort or when the Mohican father takes revenge on the Mohawk for killing the Mohican son.
Terminator 2 My favorite is Terminator 2. The raid on the Cyberdyne building, the motorcycle chase scene when the Terminator saves John Connor, when John/Terminator break Sarah Connor out of the hospital, the final scene versus the T-1000 at the steel plant. Just an awesome movie. Close Seconds: Saving Private Ryan - the final scene defending the bridge might be my favorite scene of all time. BraveHeart - just about any battle scene. The Matrix - the lobby, subway, and helicopter/rooftop scenes. Other Notables: Rush Hour 1,2 Blade 1,2 Lethal Weapon 1-4 Gone in 60 Seconds Armageddon Lord of the Rings damn A-Train stole my movie!
There is a few, going to name some that were not mentioned yet: the ending scene in Face/Off MI2, althought I admit the 2 motorcycles slamming into each other was pretty dumb downtown shootout in Heat last fight scene in Mortal Kombat Thats about all I can think of now.
How about the shootout in the saloon in Unforgiven? 'You just shot an unarmed man!' 'Well he should have armed himself.' Or The Outlaw Josey Wales 'Dying ain't much of a livin' boy'
