my pal told me he was watching an old seinfeld episode adn some said "i want knicks tickets, the rockets are in town, that hakeem olajuwon has an attitude" hahaha thought that was cool
Anybody remember that Hakeem Snickers commercial where he gets kidnapped by the rabid Knicks cab driver? That IMO was one of the best Hakeem culture references, especially with Clyde's cameo at the end.
In New York Undercover, Detective Torres said that he has two tickets to the Knicks game and Detective Williams said some other team was going to win the title. They start arguing for a bit until the Captain interrupts them and says, "Guys, Dream and Clyde are going to take the Houston Rockets to the title again." They both look at her and gave her a whatever look and left. About 4 months later the Rockets swept the Magic.
I believe it is in the Simpsons first season in the episode where Bart is fighting the bully. Bart goes to the one armed guy running the army surplus store and gets advice on how to fight the bully. When Bart is doing a role call of his troops, the last one called is an African American kid named Olajuwon.
If you believe the legend, the commercial was somewhat true. Only the city and intentions were changed to protect the innocent.
So he was kidnapped by an Orlando cab driver? I remember a story in the early 90's when Canseco was still with the A's that he got in a cab at his Manhattan hotel to get to a game at Yankees Stadium and the driver took him to Shea instead.
I have that on tape somewhere... Who else was on Letterman? Wasn't Horry, Cassell & Kenny on there too? Was Barkley on Late Night as a member of the Rockets? Yao?
No. There was a story about him where he arrived at the airport and wanted to go to Houston. His pronunciation made it sound like "Austin"... can't remember the rest. Not sure if he ended up in Austin or not.
