What new bands or artist have you listened to recently that you really dig?

Ive gotten into Ryan Adams recently, and damn is that dude an EXCELLENT songwriter. Dont believe me? Pick up the Love is Hell EP part I and II. Rock - N - Roll was released at the same time and is a fantastic album too. Both have completely different feels. Love is Hell has a mellow vibe and poignant songwriting. Rock - N - Roll is straight up what the album proclaims.

I know the guy is kind of a prick (the whole Bryan Adams thing) but seriously his music is fantastic - check it out.

    Drewdog recommended.

Not a new group, but I recently came across a group called October Project. Not mainstream, but good easy listening music.

if you guys have time, read the review of ryan adams' rock n roll album on allmusic.com
its pretty funny and informative. tells about how he titled his songs and his feud with jack white of the whitestripes.

if anyone can clue me in on what the feud is about, id appeciate it.

Drewdog, I picked that up a few weeks ago (Rock-N-Roll) and it's taken me a while to get into it. I'll try again today.

Just got a Postal Service CD. It's a side project for the lead singer for Death Cab For Cutie. The songs and vocals are very nice but the electronic stuff is annoying as hell. It sounds like Death Cab For Cutie, the 'house mix'. It is to DCFC what The Rentals were to Weezer.

I don't know, maybe I'll get used to it.

    Ryan Adams is pretty cool...

I bought my first real six string
Bought it at the five and dime
Played it 'till my fingers bled
It was the Summer of '69!!!

I'm too lazy to write about it, so I'll just give comments from magazine reviews.

Franz Ferdinand's album arrives packed not just with fizzing guitars, disco-influenced drums and intriguing shifts in tempo, but also memorable songs, laden with hooklines and startling riffs. - The Guardian

It marks the dawning of an era of British music that isn’t just for the casual petrol shop consumer, but stuff so important that you can give yourself to it completely. This is the album that’s going kick open the door for all the great British bands that’ll sweep through in their wake. - NME

The most musically rich, catchy, smartly written "new new wave" record since Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights. - PopMatters

    :(

ima's opinion notwithstanding - I can't wait for this CD to arrive! For those who do enjoy electronic music, you have to get at least one Aphex Twin (Richard James) CD! The guy is a genius and has been a huge influence on Radiohead.

And I know that they have been around for a long time, but the Flaming Lips are a really great band. I listened to "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" last night and I cannot get some of those songs out of my head. Great, great album and I will be picking up some more stuff by them in the near future.

Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica

this band does a snippet of sound for a Nissan Quest commercial, very etheral, very trippy... the CD is awesome, currently a favorite band right now.

They're not new, and if you've ever seen MTV's Jackass you've probably heard their music. I forgot about them for a long while and just remembered them a few minutes ago. Infiltrate, Destroy, and Rebuild is my favorite album from them, but Volume 1 is good too.

Zero 7 (my wife actually found them)

About six months ago, I found Maroon 5 (before they got any airplay) and Rooney.

It's pop, but she's an angry rock chick with some good tunes. Somewhere along the lines of Pink or Avril Lavigne. You can find her stuff on musicmatch.com, which I highly recommend if you want to listen to tunes at work.

They've been getting radio play(here in Austin) longer than that. I first heard Harder to Breathe in late 2002, but could never figure out who they were until last spring. It was the only song that got airplay until a couple of months ago when radio started playing more of their CD. They also have a couple really good songs I found on WinMX that I can't find released anywhere.

You forgot to mention that they were named for the guy who started some war or something.

i really liked "show me your blue side" by Rooney, so i electronically obtained some other tracks of theirs. unfortunately, i was disappointed. but blue side is an awesome song.

i've kinda gotten into the jam band sound. just got a double disc widespread panic CD and have been listening to more Dead and bands like moe. and the rest. haven't gotten into phish......... yet.
