This is as big a bunch of Rockets fans as you can find anywhere outside of Compaq Center. If there's a single member here who thinks we deserved to be in the playoffs more than the Suns did, step forward and make your case.

I think we deserve to make it because the Rockets made me pay for 8 home playoff games. The money was due in March. Where they got the idea that we will have home court in the first two rounds is anyone's guess.

Of course the money will be refunded, but still......

Suns earned it, plain and simple. We had the easier schedule, but they just wanted it more.:( :(

    Next year

Yep, they deserve it more than we do. We folded when it counted and the Suns beat the Mavs and the Spurs.

Because our point guard was the real all-star.

Because we were "higher" than them in the standings for most of the season.

    The number one reason......

    Because I said so. :p

In reality Houston has a better defense, but besides that Phoenix is the better team, they played very tough down the stretch and beat big teams. They earned it. I hate reality :(

I'll say this though, Houston had glimpses of the team that I want them to be. That team would have earned the playoff seed. That team beat the Lakers, the 76ers @philly and spanked Utah by 30 in Salt Lake City. That's the team that I hope to see next season.

Don't break up the team Les.

Explain why we deserved to be in the playoffs

Because Steve Francis is in his 4th season, been an all-star for the last 2 seasons, is considered a franchise player, and we also now have Yao. It is the "greatest team assembled!"

Oh, that was Les Alexander's explanation....

Hmmm...you got me stumped, Will.....I don't know why we deserved to be in the playoffs.

We deserve to be in the playoffs, so when the post season comes around, I can come look at threads saying trade so and so for so and so, even though it is well into the playoffs.

Simple, We deserve to be in the playoffs, b/c for the greater portion of this season, we were a.525+ team, good enough to hold either the 6th, 7th, or 8th seeds

Looking at our season series against top echelon teams from the West AND East suggests that we "are" a playoff caliber team. Unfortunately, the regular season is NOT a 40 game or 60 game season, but instead 80+.

Moreover, the West is clearly stronger than the east. If a pair of .525 and .500 can be playoff bound (e.g. Orlando, Boston, Milwaukee), something is amiss when the bar for the West is a minimum cutoff winning percentage of .544

The Rockets are, IMHO, played good enough to be a playoff bound team. Unfortunately, they were in a tough conference and a tough division where their much improved season off last year still wasn't good enough to get them in.

    :D

We deserved to be in because this is the most talented team ever assembled.

WE have the talent but not the team Game. Too many selfish players on Defence and Offence. If we keep this team then we need to get coaches that can coach the team game!

The Rockets had a lot to endure towards the stretch run towards going to the playoffs. The Rockets were riding a 5 game win streak until Rudy had to step down, and at the time it appeared that the Rockets, especially Steve Francis, were starting to get it. He received player of the week honors that week during the win streak and was playing smart ball without forcing bad shots, making idiot passes, and made sure we had our offense running smoothly. And I believe that week were scoring well over 100 points a game and were just playing beautifully. Then the Rudy situation came up and things fell apart there. Larry Smith was messing up Rudy's system that the Rockets were finally adjusted to, and then had to adjust to Larry Smith's coaching style again in mid season, and because of that I think the Rockets faultered.

The more I think of how often the Rockets had to change their system this season the more I understand why it's taking this team so long to gel.

I mean at the start of the season, our offense was solely guard oriented and was ISO every time, then in comes Yao with monster numbers against the Mavs scoring 30 in one half, and putting up 28 and 18 against the Spurs as well. So what was the original gameplan of focusing our offense on the guards had to be adjusted to fit in towards our post players too. That's one big system to change into the orignal gameplan especially during mid season. Then of course the Rudy situation, and Larry Smiths questionable coaching tactics with his substitution patterns and subbing of players that were originally riding the pine during Rudy's coaching this season. That's two too many signifacant changes in the Rockets system to adjust to, without expecting to faulter at some point, and I think that's why the Rockets faultered and didn't manage to make it in the playoffs. Were Rudy not suffering from his illness, I firmly believe the Rockets would of played consistently better throughout the season and made it in, especially because they had that momentum of the 5 game win streak before his coaching was cut short, and who knows how much longer that streak would of lasted were Rudy coaching then.

How about if we look at it this way....

We deserve to be in the playoffs because a team with a record worse than ours made it to the playoffs (Milwaukee Bucks).

Not satisfied with that answer? I have another:

We deserve to go to the playoffs because, of the 8 playoff teams in the east, we lost only ONE series (Detroit beat us in both games.. and they're ranked #1 in the East). Every other series against the Eastern playoff teams was either a tie, or we won. To me, that means that we're just as good as, or better than, most of the Eastern playoff teams.

(in case you were wondering, here are the numbers..
    Detroit beat is twice.
New Jersey, Indiana, New Orleans, and Milwaukee beat us once, and lost to us once.
We beat Philly, Boston, and Orlando twice.)

So.... IMHO, yes, we deserve to be in the playoffs. However, we DON'T deserve to be ahead of the Suns. And, the fact of the matter is, we're NOT in the East, we're in the very-tough West.

How's that for a good answer?

Don't I win at least something for my effort?

With an all-star center MiniShaq, an all-star guard MiniBryant, and yet another all-star wannabe guard, we deserve to be in the playoffs because we are the Fakers, a team that's a mini twin to the championship team LA Lakers.
