IMO, the Rockets inconsistency troubles come from inconsistency in their expectations of the upcoming opponents...

The "worst" team in the NTBA can beat the "best" on any given day. The "worst" team can have everything come together on only one day in the season, and that could be when they play the Rockets - who knows. The worst team's best game of the season will always trump the best team's worst game of the season...

So why in the world is there constant talk of, "We've got an important series of games coming up" (ie San Antonio and Dallas), as if that's more important than Detroit and Chicago?

If you listen to the championship teams, they don't care who they play next. They play hard and bring their A game with the highest motivation during EVERY game. Not only that, they bring it for all 48 minutes, not only when the game is close or when they're behind.

The Rockets will win once we stop hearing players and coaches being quoted as saying things like, "We've got an important series coming up." or... "We're playing a stretch of bottom-rung teams that we can't take for granted..." It doesn't matter guys - EVERY game is as important.

Those types of quotes will always exist.

    Thanks for the welcome.

...and we'll always be inconsistent. You play your very best before every game, period. That's why good teams have so many blowouts, and we don't - we treat each game differently and it shows.

Because the NFL plays such fewer games, they have it in better perspective, the 'ol "Take it one game at a time." You hear the old saying, "Treat each day as if it were your last."? Good teams treat each team as if they were the best (the last), because on any given night, they can be. It's also good practice for being mentally ready if one should ever play in a 7th game of a championship series.

This team lacks the right mind set to win on a consistent basis. By listening to the way Rudy talks to his players, You have to blame it on the coach.
