We're waiting on you Sean Hannity....

I think the people who claim it isn't torture are full of crap. They know it's torture but they want these guys to get tortured and admitting it's torture makes it illegal.

Neither did Mancow before he actually understood what it was.

Mancow is a pimp. I grew up listening to him in Chicago. If this man has an issue with waterboarding.......Rush would have died from that! Trust me......he is nowhere close to an Obama supporter. Biggest Bush ass kisser of the past decade!

let me go on record, i don't have a problem beheading KSM, much less waterboarding. of course, the one is capital punishment, and therefore unquestionably legal.

the other seems to trouble some folks...can't see why.

Because, I dunno, with capital punishment, there's a certain document sometimes known as the Constitution that forbids cruel and unusual methods of execution, which is why serial killers die as humanly as possible and not while being buried under a pile of stones in some other parts of the world.

yeah, but you wouldn't want to actually put force behind your belief, to prevent folks from being buried alive, pushed off cliffs, or be decapitated by machetes...

it's far more important to ensure the UAW has an automobile company to run, at tax payer expense.

Ok, ignoring the absurdity of your comparison (which amounts to union negligence=capital punishment...WTF), I have to elaborate on my belief. For me, the Constitution is almost irrelevant (at least in terms of following it word for word). Of course, I also don't think the United States should ever fathom approaching the level of say, China, in terms of human rights and that it is fundamental for America to follow the SPIRIT of the Bill of Rights

It's something I thought most Americans would appreciate. Especially people who are die-hard on preserving the integrity of the Bill when it comes to such things as say...gun ownership.

Waterboarding is way down the list of most Americans' concerns. It's like the steroids of politics, a totally media-driven 'issue'. Sorry guys, nobody gives a ****, no matter how much you try to shove it down their throats.

Which makes waterboarding ok? What's your point exactly?

Yeah, I'm sure teleprompters and the mustard Obama orders are much more relevant.

I personally don't care whether its called torture or enhanced interrogation technique. It gave false intelligence that eventually led to the Iraq War. I truly believe that there was a hidden agenda behind doing it.

The constitution applies to US citizens. We're we waterboarding US citizens? No. Do not bring up the constitution. They are entitled to due process of the laws, but not as a US citizen. It might not make a difference to you, but it makes a huge difference in a court of law. There are many criminals let off on technicalities, but you don't want a terrorist let off because a phone tap was recorded incorrectly overseas. Try concerning yourself with real problems in the world instead of beating a dead horse.

I will charitably guess you've never read the document that you cite:

    Article VI :
Ignoring the fact that torture is already illegal under US law,

    Greenwald cites the Gipper's contribution:
and we are a signatory to the Geneva Conventions, among others in this area. Ergo, torture by Americans (of anyone, US citizen or not) is against the Constitution.

More than 100 POWs/prisoners have died while in US custody. Clearly many a horse have been beaten up to and past the point of death.

On topic, much like fellow blowhard Hitchens before him:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4LPubUCJv58&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4LPubUCJv58&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I always disliked Mancow during the limited exposure I had to him, but I have to appreciate his candor here. It's "simulated" drowning only if done correctly, and if the victim doesn't have any pre-existing medical conditions. There's a very real risk of death, murder, if performed incorrectly. What was Ventura's line: "You give me a water board, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I'll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders."
(BTW, with Cheney's heart attacks, e.g., he likely wouldn't survive the experience.)

A lot of reporting going on right now is exploring the degree to which such torture was done to elicit support for an Iraq-Al Qaeda connection, in order to better sell the Iraq invasion. Such torture was carried out even after the invasion had occurred. That is CYA territory, many leagues removed from any kind of "ticking time bomb" scenario.

There are a lot of things "not okay" in this world. In fact a lot of bad things that affect a lot more people and cause a lot more damage to society. In the end, whether it's right or wrong to use waterboarding doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things.

I agree with TheFreak. This is a non-issue. For both sides.

Beheading people is probably not legal under the 8th amendment, genius.

When you try to talk on legal matters it is a pretty much a given that anything you say IS WRONG.

I suspect it is because you are dumb.

Fail. Everything you said here is wrong.

Props to these guys for putting their money where their mouth is.

This issue is so cut and dry, I cannot believe the ardent few who stand in the face of such overwhelming evidence.
