I was hoping he would http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/07/people.seanconnery.ap/index.html LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The next "Indiana Jones" flick will not be another father-son affair. Sean Connery says he will not return to play dad to Harrison Ford's globe-trotting adventurer Indy. Connery played Indy's father in 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," the third installment of the franchise directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by George Lucas. "I get asked the question so often, I thought it best to make an announcement," Connery, 76, said in a statement posted Thursday on Lucasfilm's "Indiana Jones" Web site. "I thought long and hard about it, and if anything could have pulled me out of retirement it would have been an 'Indiana Jones' film." "I love working with Steven and George, and it goes without saying that it is an honor to have Harrison as my son," he said. "But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun." The fourth "Indiana Jones" film, not yet titled, is again directed by Spielberg and produced by Lucas. Shooting begins this month, and the movie is due out May 22, 2008. Lucasfilm also announced Thursday that Cate Blanchett, John Hurt and Ray Winstone will be joining the cast, which along with Ford, includes Shia LaBeouf. Connery -- who played the bookish Henry Jones Sr. in "The Last Crusade" and affectionately called his son "Junior" -- did have some words for the 64-year-old Ford. "I do, however, have one bit of advice for Junior: Demand that the critters be digital, the cliffs be low, and for goodness sake keep that whip by your side at all times in case you need to escape from the stunt coordinator!" Connery said. "This is a remarkable cast, and I can only say, 'Break a leg, everyone.' "
yeah, they can't really pull off father and son anymore unless connery impregnated someone the minute he hit puberty. Connery has aged well, Han Solo, not so much.
I'm kind of glad he said no..though he might've been the only saving grace for this film...The Last Crusade ended perfectly, no need for a sequel 15 years later.
He wants his final starring role to be The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? Way to go out on a bang, Sean.
I saw a little bit of From Russia with Love last night. Sean Connery is completely unrecognizable in that movie. I'm used to the old, gray Connery.
rrj_gamz: who cares... Seriously, both these guys need to leave this movie alone...It'll end as a crap movie that we wish never was made...ok, maybe not, but still... There are a lot of older guys in movies...Stalone, Willis, etc...Time for a new batch of action heroes...
Has there been any action star in the last decade that has reached iconic status as these guys have (at least in the states). Not so much. So it is kind of cool to see these guys resurrect old characters again, so long as the story permits. Stallone struck gold with Rocky Balboa simply because Rock V was a terrible way to end the franchise..he deserved a second shot to get it right and he did. Was definitely skeptical of Rambo IV, but if the trailer is any indication, this is exactly the kind of over-the-top, hard R action movie that has been missing from theaters for quite some time. Same with Die Hard, plus those series never really ended, so it doesn't seem quite so much like they're grasping for straws. Indiana Jones and Terminator..well Terminator should have been left alone after Cameron's masterpiece and to this day I refuse to see the abomination that is T3. And Indy IV, well I was intrigued about 10 years ago when the rumours began to fly; but I just think its way too late in the game to finally start filmming this. Frankly, I want my last memory of this franchise to be seeing Indy and co. riding off into the sunset. But for the most part, I don't have to much of a problem with these old guys resurrecting the characters that made them famous...because no one else has really stepped up to fill their shoes.
