I've got a PS3, and I've quite a bit of media content on a server at my house (MP3's, Pictures, etc.). I know there's a way to set this up so I can listen to music via the PS3 as well as display pictures (cool when you have a kid and want to show the grandparents pictures), but I can't seem to have the PS3 see my server. The PS3 connects wirelessly to my LAN, and I have played games online as well as connecting to the PS Store. When I have the PS3 look for Media Servers, it always says it can't find any. Any ideas why? I'd really appreciate any assistance. I know it's going to be something easy (at least I hope so).
http://www.rbgrn.net/blog/2007/06/how-to-set-up-media-servers-for-your-ps3-or-xbox-360.html I use Windows Media Player 11 for my server. Files have to be in My Documents folder for it to see. Once I added my USB hard drive, I lost the need for the media server, but it's still hooked up.
I use Windows Media player 11 and Orb. You have to set your firewall settings on PC to allow ps3 to see your shared media folders.
I used TVersity and didn't seem to have too many problems IIRC, even with converting media on the fly. I followed some directions on another board though, so it was a little easier for me in that regard. It has been a while since I did this kind of thing, so I might be forgetting some things. I've been using Ubuntu for a while, and I don't think TVersity works with Linux (not even sure what works best with Linux actually).
